Panthers sweep road trip, down Rangers 3-2

Panthers @ Rangers GameDay Central                  Blueshirt Bulletin                NHL.com Postgame

Buffalo. Detroit. New York. Done, done, and done. Six points of six possible. Good stuff from a club not long ago mired in a hellish 2-8 pit of despair. Now sitting a lot prettier at 10-9-2, the Cats are surprising opponents, and themselves. Tomas Vokoun's 32 saves allowed for Nathan Horton's game winner in the third to hold off a mad final period by New York. 22 Points.

Notes:

Who led Florida in SOG? Kamil Kreps (1a, +1) with four. League Good Guy Sean Avery paced the Rags with five(??). Steven Reinprecht and Jordan Leopold also scored for the Panthers, while Vinny Prospal and Marian Gaborik kept the Ranger close. Bryan McCabe (3 shots) led all skaters with 24:12 TOI. Stephen Weiss had one assist, but his efforts throughout the night told another story: the guy was simply everywhere, winning faceoffs, setting up plays, showing how it's (supposed to be) done. Impressive, and we're seeing this more and more from him. New York forward Ryan Callahan is a wrecking ball. Ville Koistinen returned to the lineup, but his team-low 4:37 doesn't bode well for his future with Coach Pete's club. Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist stopped 25 shots. Next up: Pittsburgh on Monday...all hail the third jersey.

Sorry Whale, my wifi was not working at the Garden. I was wearing my white #34 Cats jersey, but I was up in the 300 level. I don’t know why the second and third goals didn’t go up on the board didn’t go up right away, they looked good from my seat. I didn’t like that no replays of Panther goals were shown on the big screen, so the best highlite I saw was Kreps clearing the puck out of the crease off a Ranger stick.

However, the best thing about this win is that the Panthers have not started this well since the 99-00 season. Wasn’t that the last time they made the playoffs?

Now let’s just hope there is no jinx on the third jersey.

No problem, IC…glad you had a good time! Kinda bizarre they wouldn’t do replays; tailoring to the locals?

With ya. Dying to see the entire uniform. Getting a good vibe about it.

When will they be unveiled?

Monday night Tonight at the game. I believe they’ll be wearing them (could be wrong about that), but they’re supposed to be unveiled before the game starts and then they’ll go onsale during the first period.

let’s keep cool with playoffs talk around here. it’s been far too long and there’s still way too much hockey to play.

but, this has got to be the best hockey Horton has played since being a Panther, no? all of the sudden, he’s flying around the ice and producing consistently. hes been fantastic on this little run…lets hope he keeps up that effort as well!

and to think, all of this without Booth.

Still think they should find a way to incorporate rats into the product somehow. Cartoonish? Perhaps, but it’s a legacy which has endured in SoFla.

A lot of the younger players are playing up to their potential – Horton, Weiss, Olesz is working his heart out, McArdle is playing hard, etc.

Its good to see, after so many years, the youngsters playing up to what was advertised. I can’t wait to drive down for Wednesday’s game.

Horton’s best effort yet as a Cat. Night in an night out over the past few weeks, among forwards he and Weiss have been just short of outstanding.

Goldie agrees about Horts. He’s been off the charts and looks like he might finally live up to the potential of a number 2 pick.

Most importantly: i’m so impressed with how the defense has turned things around. the shot clock not withstanding, they have been clearing pucks and people out of the front of the net with urgency and consistency like we haven’t seen in quite some time.
