Clemmensen learning the grass isn't always greener...
Sounds like goaltender Scott Clemmensen is having a hard time adjusting to the Florida Panthers' system, and is making his frustration well-known. From the Sun-Sentinal (h/t Kukla's Corner):
After allowing seven goals in Saturday's loss to the Capitals in Washington, D.C., including five in a third period he described as "like quicksand out there," Clemmensen said his teammates didn't protect the front of the net well.
When the puck got there, he added, there was such a scramble by the Panthers that "it looked like a fire drill."
I'd say that speaks at least as much to the New Jersey Devils' defence-first system than it does to any problems with the Florida Panthers defence, and it may cast a bit of a shadow over the success that Clemmensen enjoyed last season. I'd be interested to hear if Cats fans are pleased with Clemmensen's performance so far, or if he leaves much to be desired.

as far as I am concerned, Clemmensen has looked out of place from his very first game. maybe he was just a product of only having to stop 18 shots a game. he leaves much to be desired by my part. and i didn’t see the second Caps game on Saturday, but allowing 5 goals in one period, no less with a lead, is UNACCEPTABLE by the goaltender, no matter the amount of shots he faces. its ONE period, make the saves to keep your team in it.
The fact is he is a backup who has only made 4 starts this year. The one game I saw him in person, he got pulled after a minute and a half, letting up 2 very easy goals. He then bounces back with a stellar 5 goal third period in his next game. Give me a break, this guy has no room to talk, nor call out his own teammates.
here is what annoys me
Knowing he was coming from the very defensive Devils, and that playing for them was the only place he saw any real success in the NHL…..was any of that taken into consideration when signing him?
Now we have two goalies who give up very weak goals and unless Vokoun is on one of his hot-streaks (which happen about every 6 weeks or so), neither of them are able to carry a struggling team. But who know who was/is? Craig Anderson.
Hopefully the next couple years go by quickly until we have Markstrom up here…because I have no faith in how this team judges goaltenders.

When I saw that the Hurricanes signed Manny Legace...
to replace Cam Ward while he’s out, I thought, “When Cam Ward’s back, maybe we can get them to send him here…”
OK, won’t happen, but maybe if the season isn’t totally in the toilet when DiPietro’s back on the island next month we can get Biron from the Isles.

LBC, I know you linked this way back when and I also know that HockeyOutsiders is satirical, but here’s what I wrote….
Clemmensen to Florida: Clemmer becomes like the 15th backup goalie signed in the day and it’s only mid-afternoon! Our hunch is that Scott came at such an affordable price because even he knows that outside of the NJ system, he’s probably a career AHL’er. 2 hockey moms for the intrigue in finding out how legit he is and we’re betting on "biggest bust of the 2009 free agent crop".
