Panthers' Clemmensen: venting steam or breaking the code?
Courtesy of this post-game interview video following Saturday's loss to Washington, Florida goaltender Scott Clemmensen is either A: getting a bit of stress off his chest, or B: calling out his teammates, his club, his coach, and his decision to sign with the Panthers. There are a couple of "OMG" moments in here, and I for one can't fathom where this may lead for the guy; hard to believe it'll simply blow over. Stay tuned on this one.

Kudos to Clemmensen for bringing some of this to the surface….Yes, he has to swallow some of the losses here, but he brings up good points how his team is lost in its own zone, and display no consistency to their game….Vokoun’s probably too nice of a guy to come out and say it, so I give him credit here…And just maybe if we’d stop blaming goalies on this team and address some of the real issues here, we’ll be better for it in the long run…
By the way, I do like Coach PDB for the most part, but sometimes he needs to stop making some of the same excuses over and over, and address some of these issues to improve the team….Constant scrambling of D-men in their own zone, lack of coverage, and not being able to chip it out of their own zone without ICING it are all issues that need to be addressed….This will lead to better TEAM puck possession, less shots against, and more play in the opposite zone that would have to give us more chances…..And we all know, we need all the CHANCES we can get….
They need to have to learn how to play different styles of hockey, not just the up-tempo toe-to-toe stuff… I do like exciting hockey like this, but you have to play to your team’s lack of talent and decision-making in order to close out games and get points….These guys don’t have anywhere near the firepower or intelligence to go toe-to-toe, end-to-end on a regular basis..
And I wouldn’t read too much into those back-to-back shootouts….Not to take anything away from Vokoun, but Dallas came out flat for the first 40 minutes, and St Louis came out even flatter, maybe even for all 60 minutes…..So take those points and run, but address the issues that need to be addressed…. Also, I may be again in the minority here, but I don’t feel Koistenen is getting a fair shake at D….Maybe he should sit Allen a bit more, or talk to Sexton and tell him to disburse one of them…..Seidenberg’s probably their best and most consistent D-man, Ballard and Leopold are playing a bit better after slow starts, Kulikov needs to stay as he’s in a learning phase….McCabe is a gamble, and not worthy if he’s not producing offensively…..McCabe is the one guy that may have trade value on our D, so he should be shopped and/or packaged with Horton for better returns….. The best thing this team has going for it is its recent GRITTY infusion from Oreskovich, Mcardle, and Taffe….Poor leadership from McCabe, Weiss, Stillman……This team is desperate for a solid veteran leadership that’s respected to get this team ORGANIZED and call themselves and/or others out for their MISHAPS—not just Clemmensen…..Stop the excuses PDB….
Excellent post, SS1106. Should copy and paste it all into a FanPost. Seriously. I’ll front-page it.

Could not agree more with Clemmer. I don’t really think he’s saying anything that the guys in the room don’t know, he didn’t “call anyone out” per se. There’s a reason this team has consistently given up the most shots in the league for a few years now. It’s not the first shots, those happen. It’s teams getting 2nd and 3rd chances off of the initial shot because for some reason we can’t figure out how to protect the net, clear a rebound, control the puck, or let alone break out with any sort of speed.
