WELCOME TO THIS EVENING'S OPEN THREAD

You just knew it would come to this: Martin Brodeur brings his 103 career shutouts into this game; one more sets the all-time record. The Florida Panthers...there for you when you need them the most.

Please take a minute to check out our good friend (and very understanding colleagues) John, Steve, and the loyal crowd at In Lou We Trust for their typical excellence in Devils coverage.

Oh yeah: Like, duh...we've been saying this for eight months.

I'm REALLY freaking happy it's Friday. Go Cats.

Star-divide

Big thanks, JMarushin.

Happy Friday all

So how about this crazy Vokoun talk? Waaaay too early to speak of him getting dealt. But if he is shown the door – this far ahead of the trade deadline – does that indicate a housecleaning is on the way?

by Donny Rivette on Dec 11, 2009 7:03 PM EST reply actions

TGIF

Unless your facing Marty Brodeur!
How goes it gang?
Vokoun traded? Well apparently he’s about the only bargaining chip we have that can be dealt. At this point anyway. Who needs a goalie? Philly maybe?

by The Rat Trick on Dec 11, 2009 7:07 PM EST up reply actions

its probably to dump that big contract and get talent in return i mean i would do it not saying i dont like tvo i mean i have his jersey but you must sacrifice to get a nice return so long as it has value

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

agreed. I like him as well. he has deserved better

by The Rat Trick on Dec 11, 2009 7:09 PM EST up reply actions

yep its not like we dont have a stack of goalies waiting to get their turn

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:10 PM EST up reply actions

Wait a minute -

Isn’t Vokoun’s contract up this year?

by DarthDaddy98 on Dec 11, 2009 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

But any team taking him will demand to dump salary in return…that’s the kicker

by Donny Rivette on Dec 11, 2009 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

although im willing to deal horton and olesz and kreps as well like ive been sayin all year

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:09 PM EST reply actions

no problem dealing them too

by The Rat Trick on Dec 11, 2009 7:09 PM EST up reply actions

like southwest airlines says
grab your bags its on!

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:09 PM EST reply actions

no shut out for you!! biatch

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:13 PM EST reply actions

Good to see Robbie Nieds…anyone want the Cats to grab him over the summer?

by Donny Rivette on Dec 11, 2009 7:15 PM EST reply actions

i wanted him last summer bring back original drafted cat lol

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:16 PM EST up reply actions

dont forget jovocop lol jeje

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:16 PM EST up reply actions

Shook his hand and got his autograph before he even got on the ice for FLA…that was kewl, cuz you just Didn’t Know

by Donny Rivette on Dec 11, 2009 7:17 PM EST up reply actions

Awwww… too bad you missed BonJovi.

by DarthDaddy98 on Dec 11, 2009 7:19 PM EST reply actions

Yeah…didn’t know they were scheduled. Should try television advertising next time around.

by Donny Rivette on Dec 11, 2009 7:20 PM EST up reply actions

All Happy Pony, all the time. I feel so much better now.

by DarthDaddy98 on Dec 11, 2009 7:24 PM EST reply actions

finally i understand, the happy pony!

by alterego6487 on Dec 11, 2009 7:29 PM EST reply actions

no feeds, huh? has to be on sopcast…

by alterego6487 on Dec 11, 2009 7:30 PM EST up reply actions

says sopcast required…don’t know what that is, it’s for internet explorer and we don’t have that on mac

by alterego6487 on Dec 11, 2009 7:34 PM EST up reply actions

woh! way too technical for me. Not sure really. My daughter has a mac and she can get it.

by The Rat Trick on Dec 11, 2009 7:35 PM EST up reply actions

i always get frustrated when horton gets the puck

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:32 PM EST reply actions

u know what this team needs is to borrow florida marlins scouts and player personnel lol because they always pick the right players bring them up and they become stars

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:34 PM EST up reply actions

yeah, and then they get rid of them!

by alterego6487 on Dec 11, 2009 7:35 PM EST up reply actions

they do but they almost always compete and they almost always have just as good replacements in the farm

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:35 PM EST up reply actions

example chris coughlan when they got rid of the hammer lol

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:36 PM EST up reply actions

and that’s precisely the problem with the Panthers, how many times have we heard this is the year we finally see “the kids” true potential

by alterego6487 on Dec 11, 2009 7:36 PM EST up reply actions

cannot argue that. you’re 100% right.

by alterego6487 on Dec 11, 2009 7:36 PM EST up reply actions

easy. I like mike. goes back to my days on chicago

by The Rat Trick on Dec 11, 2009 7:38 PM EST up reply actions

What happened to Markstrom? I thougt he was the next great goalie?

by DarthDaddy98 on Dec 11, 2009 7:36 PM EST reply actions

Won’t be in NA until next fall earliest…under contract for remainder of the season

by Donny Rivette on Dec 11, 2009 7:37 PM EST up reply actions

is he really as good as advertised? i couldn’t find much video of him to see for mysefl

by alterego6487 on Dec 11, 2009 7:37 PM EST up reply actions

i don’t know if i like just “good.” hah.

by alterego6487 on Dec 11, 2009 7:38 PM EST up reply actions

but then again, he’s yet to play in the NHL so who knows.

by alterego6487 on Dec 11, 2009 7:39 PM EST up reply actions

True true, but I’ve heard the term “Best goaltender outside of the NHL” more than once

by Donny Rivette on Dec 11, 2009 7:39 PM EST up reply actions

Gotta start somewhere…

by DarthDaddy98 on Dec 11, 2009 7:39 PM EST up reply actions

i think he comes up next year or 2011

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:37 PM EST up reply actions

thats probably why they willing to trade vokoun already

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:38 PM EST reply actions

It’s insane tho…go with Clemmer as the starter for the rest of the year? Who backs him up…Salak? Makes no sense this early.

by Donny Rivette on Dec 11, 2009 7:39 PM EST up reply actions

i’m only for it if it brings a good return at this point.

by alterego6487 on Dec 11, 2009 7:39 PM EST up reply actions

same here goalie is not the problem i think clemmer can hang its the scoring and the d thats the problem

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:40 PM EST up reply actions

But we’ll have to take on immense salary in return, meaning another aging expensive forward on the downside comes our way

by Donny Rivette on Dec 11, 2009 7:41 PM EST up reply actions

then in that case play it like the Heat, get a guy with a major salary but that’s going off the books at the end of the year. i also agree that goalie is not the problem, been saying this for the last two yeras when my friends rag on vokoun. his GAA has been fine, we just don’t score more than 2 a game.

by alterego6487 on Dec 11, 2009 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

who would u say they would have to take on?

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:45 PM EST up reply actions

easter conference finals PANTHERS VS PENGUINS lol… i can dream cant i lol

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:49 PM EST reply actions

Been there, done that sent those birds packing – says the ole’ Panthers geezer.

by coasterg on Dec 11, 2009 7:51 PM EST up reply actions

yeah but not with crosbitch jeje

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 7:55 PM EST up reply actions

the glory days. i was there in Pittsburgh with Paul Laus’ dad and my family. i was NINE!

by alterego6487 on Dec 11, 2009 7:53 PM EST up reply actions

long story short, Pens fans weren’t too nice to me in the bathroom because i was sporting a Lindsay #11 jersey. this big man took my side and later told me he was Laus’ father…and brought us to meet the team after the game. i guess thats what makes me still sit through these debacles year after year.

by alterego6487 on Dec 11, 2009 7:55 PM EST up reply actions

On fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

by The Rat Trick on Dec 11, 2009 8:04 PM EST reply actions

what’s the trick to posting photo’s?

by The Rat Trick on Dec 11, 2009 8:06 PM EST up reply actions

my crap computer skills won’t allow me to copy and paste a photo, so I must be stupid, or missing something

by The Rat Trick on Dec 11, 2009 8:20 PM EST up reply actions

bipolarness again lose to a team that has been having problems but are winning vs a better team

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 11, 2009 8:08 PM EST reply actions

I honestly think that the better teams get overconfident against us and step-down their play. The comes back to bite them if the Cats bring their A-game.

by DarthDaddy98 on Dec 11, 2009 8:11 PM EST up reply actions

It's Topsy-Turvy Night...

We’re two up on the Devils, who are in 2nd place in the east.
The Hartford Whalers Hurricanes are two up on Washington, who’s in 1st.

Make that we’re up 3-0. WooHoo…

by OldDave on Dec 11, 2009 8:11 PM EST reply actions

You knew it couldn’t last…

by DarthDaddy98 on Dec 11, 2009 8:12 PM EST reply actions

by OldDave on Dec 11, 2009 8:13 PM EST up reply actions

by The Rat Trick on Dec 11, 2009 8:33 PM EST reply actions

Sadly ...

… the power has gone out at Chez OldDave (and the surrounding homes as well). I’m here only until either the UPS quits powering the WiFi router and DSL modem, or the laptop battery dies. They are racing each other to the bitter end.

by OldDave on Dec 11, 2009 8:43 PM EST up reply actions

The 3rd Period...

I’ve got a bad feeling about this…

by DarthDaddy98 on Dec 11, 2009 8:47 PM EST reply actions

Investigate noise-cancelling microphones.

by OldDave on Dec 11, 2009 9:04 PM EST reply actions

Why?

Did he fart or something?

by DarthDaddy98 on Dec 11, 2009 9:08 PM EST up reply actions

Or perhaps 790 needs more power...

… when the crowd gets into it I can’t really hear him.

by OldDave on Dec 11, 2009 9:09 PM EST up reply actions

Why don’t we have a guy camped out in front of the net?

by DarthDaddy98 on Dec 11, 2009 9:05 PM EST reply actions

cause gary roberts was traded, then he retired
