PensBurgh       *      Panthers @ Penguins GameDay Central        *      TSN Preview

Welcome to this evening's Open Thread: Where we're not about to miss "Happy Pony"

Star-divide

Not much time to savor a tasty victory only hours ago as the Cats arrive in Pittsburgh for what likely will be their final game at The Igloo. Personally? Good riddance; one more vestige from the Francis/Samuelsson/Jennings for Cullen/Parker/Zalapski travesty goes the way of the Dodo. But sadly this will live on in late-night cable reruns.

The only major roster change may be the addition of LW Michal Repik, recalled from Rochester in case C Dominic Moore is still extricating a stick from his chest. Been that kind of year.

It was a story of "twos" just last night, when Michael Frolik banged home dos goals, backed up by dual-assist performances from Nathan Horton and Stephen Weiss. Scott Clemmensen stopped 26 shots en route the Florida's victory over the uber-hot Devils. Can they carry it over?

Frank, Hooks, and the posse at PensBurgh will be manning the home fort, and check them out for a Pens-centric angle.

Thanks for coming in from the South Florida rain for what should be typical fireworks between two clubs who don't appear to share much love. Which, of course, rules. Go Cats.

Sure freaking hope so my friend…said he would be this year’s Big Deal in Florida over the summer. Not looking too good on that count. Yet.

by Donny Rivette on Dec 12, 2009 7:33 PM EST up reply actions

Damn Center Ice, no Florida feed, I have to deal with the Pitt announcers. :(

by IceCat69 on Dec 12, 2009 7:47 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Woot!

Panthers 1, Penguins zippo

by OldDave on Dec 12, 2009 7:54 PM EST reply actions

Vokoun is earning his keep tonight…defense is a bit, um, suspect

by Donny Rivette on Dec 12, 2009 7:55 PM EST reply actions

different lines will cause that lol

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 12, 2009 7:55 PM EST up reply actions

ive always say that all 4 lines if healthy should be like a brotherhood u know they get to know each other on how they play what kind of pass they like where they always set up where they hide you know that kind of thing but almost every night its a different mixed line if only people were healthy this would be different its sort of like the CPR line last year when kept together they scored all the time

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 12, 2009 7:57 PM EST reply actions

So, based on the last matchup of these two teams, do we go to overtime, only to have a 4 minute high stick called on Crosby, after he’s checked to the ice by Allen and then in his flailing motion clips Frolik?

by IceCat69 on Dec 12, 2009 7:59 PM EST via mobile reply actions

stay on your feet Kuli! chalk that up to a rookie play?

by alterego6487 on Dec 12, 2009 8:00 PM EST reply actions

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 12, 2009 8:01 PM EST reply actions

YES!!!

THANK YOU!!! i’ve been trying to think of what movie The Igloo was so prominently featured in!

by alterego6487 on Dec 12, 2009 8:02 PM EST up reply actions

if they only had big mac i would put him in just to jump malkin

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 12, 2009 8:09 PM EST reply actions

It’s about time they called that…I would have been pissed after last match up with them

by CLG_74 on Dec 12, 2009 8:10 PM EST reply actions

what was the penalty called? i can’t listen to them.

by alterego6487 on Dec 12, 2009 8:11 PM EST reply actions

double minor highstick

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 12, 2009 8:11 PM EST up reply actions

Kind glad that frame is over. Was getting mighty weird.

Not clubbing your own goalie weird, but ballpark.

by Donny Rivette on Dec 12, 2009 8:16 PM EST reply actions

feeling that as well. thrilled with 1-1 right now.

by alterego6487 on Dec 12, 2009 8:23 PM EST up reply actions

AROUND THE SE...

WAS over TOR 2-0, start of second
CAR & OTW tied at one, mid-second
MON over ATL 1-0, start of second

by Donny Rivette on Dec 12, 2009 8:17 PM EST reply actions

Good, go Caps, go Canes, and let’s just hope Atl/Ott doesn’t go to OT.

by IceCat69 on Dec 12, 2009 8:23 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Listening to the Pittsburgh commentators is just painful. Just as bad as the NJ color guy last night, but that was made up since their play-by-play is so good.

by coasterg on Dec 12, 2009 8:40 PM EST reply actions

Dont know offhand, but he sounded ancient.

by coasterg on Dec 12, 2009 8:41 PM EST up reply actions

Mike Emerick does the Devs play by play, and Chico Resch is the Homer color guy.

by IceCat69 on Dec 12, 2009 8:46 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

YEAH penalty is over!!

by coasterg on Dec 12, 2009 8:42 PM EST reply actions

PIT is playing lousy hockey – for them, anyway. Ripe for the pickin’. If the Cats keep composed…

by Donny Rivette on Dec 12, 2009 8:44 PM EST reply actions

I stand by the comment, tho…Pens are not playing “their” game

by Donny Rivette on Dec 12, 2009 8:48 PM EST up reply actions

They aren’t but neither are we – and we can’t win that type of game.

by coasterg on Dec 12, 2009 8:49 PM EST up reply actions

See that kook in the lower bowl wearing a late-80s Pens sweater with Crosby on it? Lame.

by Donny Rivette on Dec 12, 2009 8:56 PM EST reply actions

oh he ate all my mints!

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 12, 2009 8:59 PM EST reply actions

The Government Employees Insurance Company Gecko? Ate mine too.

by Donny Rivette on Dec 12, 2009 9:00 PM EST up reply actions

So when do we have permission to start the “Hey ref, you suck” chants at the billboard again?

by coasterg on Dec 12, 2009 9:00 PM EST reply actions

Well we made it thru a bad period. We need to get moving in the 3rd and play our game.

by coasterg on Dec 12, 2009 9:06 PM EST reply actions

here we go...

Horton ties it late in the third, only to lose in a shootout

by alterego6487 on Dec 12, 2009 9:23 PM EST reply actions

anyone else think DVo skates a little toooo fast sometimes?

by alterego6487 on Dec 12, 2009 9:25 PM EST reply actions

at this point, DVo, just because he’s older. but i always want the speed! and it doesn’t fail on the PK.

by alterego6487 on Dec 12, 2009 9:30 PM EST up reply actions

i would have a race between booth and dvo to see who is the fastest

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 12, 2009 9:31 PM EST up reply actions

WOOOOOO!!!! i feel like we never make that play out of the penalty box!

by alterego6487 on Dec 12, 2009 9:30 PM EST reply actions

Pens PP coming up. Can’t have PIT finishing this one with less than two points…

(Pens fans are gonna eat that up)

by Donny Rivette on Dec 12, 2009 9:34 PM EST reply actions

One day, probably sooner than later an NBA-style referee scandal will hit the NHL.

by coasterg on Dec 12, 2009 9:35 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed, except no one south of the Canadian border will care other than us

by Donny Rivette on Dec 12, 2009 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 12, 2009 9:34 PM EST reply actions

by coasterg on Dec 12, 2009 9:37 PM EST reply actions

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 12, 2009 9:39 PM EST reply actions

Ever see the Nordiques fan who went bananas on Rob Ray?

Classic. Behold.

by Donny Rivette on Dec 12, 2009 9:43 PM EST up reply actions

Did you know that the Pens have 33 shots on goal? Their announcers are saying it like a mantra.

by coasterg on Dec 12, 2009 9:40 PM EST reply actions

Not to mention their 31 hits

by IceCat69 on Dec 12, 2009 9:43 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I guess that with the way the team is playing, they can only get 3 sponsors (Bon Jovi, Dane Cook, Happy Pony)

by studyaid on Dec 12, 2009 9:43 PM EST reply actions

Nice play by Taffe and the 2nd chance stuff in was good too.

by coasterg on Dec 12, 2009 9:51 PM EST reply actions

The Pens announcers have nothing bad to say about Jeff Taffe.

by IceCat69 on Dec 12, 2009 9:52 PM EST via mobile reply actions

no way, a late in the game power play for the Penguins! shocking!

by alterego6487 on Dec 12, 2009 9:52 PM EST reply actions

by alterego6487 on Dec 12, 2009 9:57 PM EST reply actions

by coasterg on Dec 12, 2009 9:57 PM EST reply actions

by SNOOP97DAWG on Dec 12, 2009 9:59 PM EST reply actions
