Monday Caterwaul - Panthers Open Forum

There's the kicker above from Saturday's OT loss; not much of an argument to be made against it, unfortunately.

Cats are on The Island tonight. Better showing out of John Tavares this time around? How about Vokoun or Clemmensen? Nick Tarnasky's finally back on the ice. Would this season be considered "successful" if at the end they have proceeded at a point-per-game pace (which is precisely where the Cats are)?

Open Thread goes live at 6pm.

what the hell is going on up there?

the Cats are killing us in Rochester. one more stupid injury (e.g. whacking a goalie in the head, body slamming into someone else in open ice or jabbing yourself in the gut with a stick) and one more callup.

and I don’t even want to hear any of them crying like Nancy Kerrigan.

Looks like Leopold and Moore are playing tonight, which probably means Garrison and Repik will be back for tomorrow’s game against the Crunch. And it’s not like you have to worry too much about them anyway…

Tarnasky and Campbell should be back by Xmas. So, barring any more freak accidents we should have most of the starting roster back by some time in January. Minus Booth. He ain’t coming back. Maybe if we manage to make it to the playoffs.

Chelios?

That’s the way the cookie crumbles, hockey is a collision sport :(

Chris Chelios is available, probably for a mil or less, just saying, he may be 46 but he can still play, isn’t exactly dumb, and brings some on-ice and locker room leadership to a team that seems like it is lacking in that

Plus the HORDES of experience he has piled up through the years

Chelios?

Gang, I’m originally from Chicago and saw Chelios in his heyday with the Hawks. He was nasty, ornery, and one of the best teammates and defencemen around in his time. But honestly, that time has passed. He’s 46, and I give him an awful lot of credit but think about it. Do we really want a 46 year old defenceman?
And do we think that he’d go anywhere else but to a potential cup winner?

I could say the same of his time in Montreal; he was a beast. Ate the Whalers.

But I’d have to decline given the staff in place. If we were one or two moves from contending for the conference title, I might think otherwise.

I just don’t see where Chelios would fit. Sure, I guess it would be cool for our AHLers that get called up to say they dressed in the lockerroom with a legend, but beyond that… Whose place does he take? Kulikov? Allen? McCabe? With Ellerby and Garrison already logging NHL minutes, bringing in a 46 year old defenseman just doesn’t make sense.

And from his perspective, does he really want to end his HOF career in Sunrise? Come on, now…
