Panthers at Blue Jackets - Live Game Thread
Florida Panthers at Columbus Blue Jackets, Dec 9, 2009 7:00 PM EST
13-11-5 (31 Points) 11-13-6 (28 Points)
The Cannon * Cats at Jackets GameDay Central * TSN Preview
WELCOME TO THIS EVENING'S OPEN THREAD
Shawn Matthias is in, Gregory Campbell (injured when blanked by Bryan Allen) is out in a swap of centers as the Cats continue adjusting to what's increasingly becoming one of those years.
Stephen Weiss and Nathan Horton both went scoreless on Monday, but center Dominic Moore broke through with his first two-goal effort as a Panther against the Oilers.
Tomas Vokoun (5-3-1 on the road this season) is 19-7-0-1 with three shutouts in 28 career games against the Blue Jackets. Haven't seen yet who's been announced as the starter, but with numbers like that, this coaching thing's pretty simple. Like utilizing your hottest goal scorer in the fifth round of a shootout.
On the Columbus front, a minor deal was swung yesterday which had the Jackets acquiring F Tomas Kana and D Brendan Bell from St. Louis for F Pascal Pelletier. Oh, and Rick Nash is 15th in league goal scoring (15g and 30 points). He's gonna be good one day.
Say hi to the gang at The Cannon (love the logo) and ask 'em if they have more appreciation for Kristian Huselius than this organization did.
Go Cats.

30 games in the books so let’s see how the Panthers are doing. 28 points (31 points last year after 30). 4 points out of 8th right now.
52 left to play and the uphill climb begins now. Based upon last years numbers 94 points are required to qualify for the postseason. That means 66 points in the next 52 games.
I did this out of boredom and just want to look at the season realistically.
Go Cats!!!

Here's hoping the Cats do well tonight.
If they don’t, please give Happy Pony my regards. Sorry, but there’s soccer in my plan for this evening, not hockey. Good luck Panthers! Keep up the backhand Olesz!
On a personal note...
…(and The Pony reminded me) I just wanted to say I’m aware things have been a bit light around here over the past few days. Working my tail off lately – as so many of us are – and finding fewer open moments. Gonna get get better soon. Thanks for sticking by us.
i’ve been searching all my known sources. got nothing.Sorry

i love the actual picture, except sub the “u” for a gator…..having this same television issue with the Dolphins this weekend because Jax can’t sell out their stadium so it’s blacked out in our “local market” in Gainesville. turns out the most logical option is to go to the game in Jacksonville!
I'm driving up for the game
hoping that it wont rain but for now it’s looking like a wet day

Crist is trying to convince JAX to draft Tebow.

coming from a gator...
unless they just want to sell tickets, that’s a waste. i don’t see how Tebow fares in the NFL. the dude’s a winner, that’s for sure, but a starting QB in the NFL…ehh.
I think they figure that if they draft Tebow then they’ll sell out every game for at least a few years w/ all the Gator fans that live up there

yeah i get the assumption, however, if Tuna decided to draft someone just to sell tickets, i’d call for his head. winning sells tickets, right? see: panthers.
lol point taken

First overall in 2002. We traded the pick for him. Nice.

See the other names in that draft’s first round? Semin at 13, Cam Ward at 25. THAT’S drafting.
by Donny Rivette on Dec 9, 2009 7:36 PM EST up reply actions
in round two the panthers drafted Rob Globke. The Blackhawks took 14 spots later some guy named Duncan Keith!

BUF over WAS 1-0, end of one
NJ over CAR 2-0, end of one
TBL over EDM 1-0, mid-first
ATL at CAL, 9:30 start
Any bets on the Flames beating the Flames?
by Donny Rivette on Dec 9, 2009 7:51 PM EST up reply actions
Going with ATL on this one – to my dismay – with a 5-3 victory.

First instinct is to defend him (Kuli, Markstrom, well Kuli and Markstrom), but it may just be high time to check on his history of picks

i know. he’s just overall been disappointing.

and no offence by all means to Radek Dvorak, but who picked him, with Jerome Iginla being next?

Who will carry the Cats to a lead before they lose it late in the third, go to overtime, and blow it in the SO?
C’mon…who?

drafts
since we’re having a little fun with drafts, in 1993 the panthers took rob niedermayer 5th as we all know.
Some players chosen after him in the first round, jason arnott, brendan witt, and Saku koivu. Oh yea and todd bertuzzi!
Ok, i’m done with my little excercise
just goes to show, how tough it is to draft
by The Rat Trick on Dec 9, 2009 8:36 PM EST up reply actions
Slightly OT ...
… I’m stuck at work (what else is new) listening to the game on 790’s internet feed. Some of the music they play during the commercial breaks would get their license jerked in 0.5 seconds (*) if it make it over the airwaves.
() the time required to say "M****F*****"
Ain’t tht always the way…remember, I hail from Hartford (listed to A LOT of hockey via radio)
