NHL in turmoil (?)
A must-read by the Toronto Sun's Bill Lankhof.
And by "must-read" I refer to this being yet another sky-is-falling/relocation/expansion/contraction Ontario-needs-a-second-team screed, complete with a list of which clubs are in the most "dire" of circumstances.
The Panthers are one of the biggest offenders in padding attendance. It is possible to buy a ticket for $17. If that's not good enough, for the same $17, you can get a deal including a ticket, a parking pass, a $5 gas card, and a food voucher for a total worth more than $17.
Now there's a strong case for relocation: ticket discounts. C'mon, Bill...give us something we can work with.

what a freaking joke, that article is. Gee, maybe if games are played on a regular basis on TV more, it wouldn’t be such an issue. But stupid network keeps replacing planned programming with other sports.
having ESPN stopping carrying games
was the biggest mistake the NHL made. Spend the extra $ and keep hockey on national TV on a regular basis.

Yep
The Vs. move was either:
a) a classic money grab by NHL owners who couldn’t tap expansion fees anymore
b) a classic “we believe in our product more than we should” move
c) a favor to Comcast Flyers made guy Ed Snider
d) all of the above.

the NHL didn’t stop ESPN from carrying games, ESPN opted not to pick up the NHL post-lockout. It was ESPN’s decision, not the NHLs. VS. was the only “national” network that would. It wasn’t really a choice.
i thought it was an issue over money
that the NHL wanted a certain amount for the rights to broadcast and ESPN wasnt willing to pay.

Well I can’t really disagree with a lot of what he says as far as the teams and financial woes seen throughout the league. I still don’t see relocation as a means to an end though. And contraction might just end the NHL. Canada has its OHL and QMJHL, which, during my recent trip to Calgary, their minor league teams gets more coverage then the Panthers do in south Florida. They don’t need our teams too, lol. Everyone thinks they have an answer, but nobody is doing anything about it.
I don’t know why you Panthers fans are discussing this, since I’m told you don’t exist :-)
