Obviously they want to be back… what other team would pick up Pelts or Dvorak? Skrastins is a solid D-man, no doubt. Minus J-Bo next season, he’s probably a top pair guy. Question is, does Florida want Pelts and Dvorak back? Should they ask them back?

That’s the question, alright. Skras is no lock thanks to the return of Bryan Allen (’member him?) but I really like his play. A result of his linemate?
We are talking third-line here, but Pelts and D-Vo are a pretty sizable portion of the CPR deal. The two can’t be that expensive, and in any case, who replaces them among the current roster (or that of Rochester)?

skrastins is a great shot blocker and thats it. he is consistently outskated and outrun. he’s always back because he’s so damn slow. Dvorak and zednik were the only one’s who always gave 100% every time on the ice, plus Dvorak is a very good penalty killer. pelts well makes good decisions most of time.

that’s the problem though, jay. i don’t think there’s anyone on this team that doesnt give 100%. but you can only have so many dvoraks, peltonens, mcleans, tarnaskys, stewarts, kreps… the list goes on, and that’s the point. you can find younger guys with more of a future and more of a scoring touch for the same price. Pelts is 36 next season, Dvorak is 32. I don’t think anyone can expect anything more then what we got from those 2 this season. The CPR line was a great 3rd line, energy line. But there’s already too many 8-15 goal a season guys, and far too few 25+ guys.
As for Skrastins, i thought he was our best defensive defenseman this year, bar none. I’m assuming Jay Bo is gone, so Bryan Allen should be back next season, hopefully 100%. With McCabe and Ballard chipping in offensively, Skras and Allen solid in the d zone, and Boynton and Eminger playing their role, defense won’t be a problem next season. I really don’t think losing Bo will hurt too much. Assuming we use the freed up $$$ for scoring help.

There are guys who don’t give 100% every night. One of them is named Horton. Another one is Jay “Oh, look, there goes the puck” Bouwmeester.
Pelts and Dvorak are solid third-line guys. The guys in Rochester aren’t all ready. We can’t keep everyone, though, because we need a first-line center. Period. I expect Booth and Frolik to improve next year, but we need more than two guys who can score more than 25. Horton needs to be one of those guys and if he can’t, then he needs to go.
Skrastins is a good defensive defenseman. He’s far better than Ruslan “Captain Useless” Salei was. The defense will still be decent without Jay Bo. In fact, it may be better since we won’t have him watching the puck go by just before the other team scores the tying goal. I really think re-signing Skrastins and Boynton and then working on the offense is the way to go. If Eminger doesn’t want a huge raise, sign him and see how he works out with a full year in the system. I haven’t been impressed so far (except for his play in the third last night), but he’s been better than those he replaced.
