Late Night Liners: Panthers double Penguins 4-2 in Sunrise

Rusty Olesz and Bryan McCabe each had a goal and an assist, Tomas Vokoun held the fort (really!) with 41 save, and the Panthers' playoff dreams hopes live on another day.

Forget all that. The key to this game was Keith Ballard, professional Superman, who, well, did THIS:

One for the ages there. And being in the crowd, the crunch was electric; one could literally "hear" the sound barrier broken as Malkin's legs cartwheeled.

Sidney Crosby freaking out was simply icing. This boy does not like the Florida Panthers. By the end of this calendar year he may well have worked his way through the entire Cats lineup. Get some.

Anyone who argues the validity of the trade which was in essence Jokinen-for-Ballard hasn't winessed Bally's game-altering physical play. The stuff that makes hockey fans.

Coach Pete had 'em ready to fly tonight. More to come Monday.

“House” Ballard is a video game and now a real-life sensation.

Ballard is the man.

Anyone who thinks that wasn’t a great trade hasn’t been watching the D this season. Yes, we lost our biggest scorer with Jokinen, but I think the team attitude has improved. Our defense has improved. Ballard is the new cornerstone of this defense. Even on his best days, Jay Bo hasn’t inspired the team or brought the crowd into a game the way Keith Ballard has done. JM robbed the Coyotes. They didn’t even keep Olli for a whole season before shipping him off to Calgary.

Now, if someone can convince JM to go out and pick up a first-liner who can put it in the net and convince Pete DeBoer that the forwards need to work on faceoffs hardcore for next season…
