LIVE BLOG: Florida Panthers at Atlanta Thrashers, Holding Vigil edition

Florida Panthers at Winnipeg Jets, Apr 9, 2009 7:00 PM EDT

  Nhl_g_vokoun_580_medium

It's going to take more than a flashy, solid game by T-Vo to save the season.

Anyone interested in this game knows the score: win and perhaps live another day. Lose and look forward to July 1st.

A major night of scoreboard watching ahead of us. Kind of somber, as well.

No matter the outcome, it's part of the learning process for this club and it's outstanding still-first-year head coach.

Not much more to chronicle in the lead-up to this evening, so we'll let the games speak for themselves.

Do sneak over to Bird Watchers Anonymous and say hi to Falconer and the gang.

Broad Street Hockey  vs.  Blueshirt Banter

Habs Eyes on the Prize  vs.  Stanley Cup of Chowder

Go Cats.

And Flyers.

And B's.

And Flyers. More.

Good evening, troops

I’m not going to admit my stomach might be tied in knots. No way. Not this guy.

Wow, you must be tied in knots....

you wrote Go Cats and Flyers and Habs and Flyers. More…..HABS????

Hello

I have been told not to watch, so, it’s dinner, then playing Star Wars with Shane

well, I watched on Tuesday and look what happened

by studyaid on Apr 9, 2009 6:59 PM EDT up reply actions

DolPhanDave’s got a family thing tonight, and he’s DVRing the game, but he asked me to send him updates on Rangers and Habs…but not on Florida. He’s gotta be jonesin

Anyone else getting nervous with “Ship Shape” being on in place of Panthers Tonight? Same on HD.

by Donny Rivette on Apr 9, 2009 6:54 PM EDT reply actions

I thanked my contact at Comcast for showing the Tuesday game, and she replied with lightning speed.

Can’t hurt having a friend in that department.

by Donny Rivette on Apr 9, 2009 6:54 PM EDT reply actions

I think I’m starting to get knotted up…. :-X

by CLG_74 on Apr 9, 2009 7:03 PM EDT reply actions

I’m remaining cynical and negative because too many things have to happen for the Panthers to make it, I just hope they make good moves in the off season after J Bo jumps ship

by studyaid on Apr 9, 2009 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions

True…..us winning both games means nothing if Rangers/Habs do the same

by CLG_74 on Apr 9, 2009 7:06 PM EDT up reply actions

This summer it’s all about scoring help. Two years ago it was goaltending, last summer was defense. All part of the plan, and JM has admitted as much.

by Donny Rivette on Apr 9, 2009 7:06 PM EDT up reply actions

do you think DeBoer would force a T-Vo trade for a scorer?

by studyaid on Apr 9, 2009 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

hmmmmmm that is something to really ponder on….good question

by CLG_74 on Apr 9, 2009 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions

but with that, is Andy really ready to be a full-time starter?

by studyaid on Apr 9, 2009 7:10 PM EDT up reply actions

what FA scorers are available? Are Matthias and Repik ready?

by studyaid on Apr 9, 2009 7:14 PM EDT reply actions

On Matty and Repik…a solid MAYBE.

And the UFA market is kinda bare this summer. I’ll get back to ya on it.

would you like the wingers as well?

by studyaid on Apr 9, 2009 7:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

That was why I’m thinking they might try to trade T-Vo. For a center. I’m not sure Andy’s ready, but there might be an aging starter they could bring in as a backup. Not sure CuJo is going to be sharp enough, but there might be someone else out there.

by studyaid on Apr 9, 2009 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions

There was talk Cammaleri wasn’t happy under Keenan – or vice versa – but no one else on that list is a real gamebreaker.

Most of the older guys (Sundin, Sakic) will re-sign with their clubs, I imagine

by Donny Rivette on Apr 9, 2009 7:22 PM EDT reply actions

What about Comrie?

by studyaid on Apr 9, 2009 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Tough to say. If he was still on Lonn Guyland, I’d say he’s gone, but back in Ottawa, he might stay. Todd Marchant might not be a terrible pickup. Let me pull his stats.

by John Beatty on Apr 9, 2009 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Never mind. We don’t need another 30 point a year guy. We need a 100 point a year guy.

by John Beatty on Apr 9, 2009 7:31 PM EDT up reply actions

No way, Jackson. The Isles were thrilled to dump him off. And so were their fans.

How can you not be impressed with Campbell this year? What a progression.

Well, yeah, but we need a first line center.

by John Beatty on Apr 9, 2009 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh, ok. Solid 3rd liner, though. And you need those. Could be the Kris Draper of this franchise.

by John Beatty on Apr 9, 2009 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh wait, it was on the second penalty.

does nyone else HATE atlanta as much as me?

by chris37 on Apr 9, 2009 8:40 PM EDT reply actions

They’ve been irritating, but neither of our postseason hopes have ever really hinged on each other. So, no, I don’t hate them, but I do find them to be a pain in the rear

by Donny Rivette on Apr 9, 2009 8:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Just the perfect time to run into a hot goalie, some would say.

I disagree. He’s a man who can be beaten.

nother pp for the cats

by chris37 on Apr 9, 2009 9:05 PM EDT reply actions

Thrashers score on a 3-on-2 shorthanded breakaway.

It’s over, kids.

by John Beatty on Apr 9, 2009 9:07 PM EDT reply actions

heheheh. If Weiss gets named captain next year, I’ll laugh and laugh and laugh. Because I know it will annoy 101. Really, though, I’m expecting McCabe.

by John Beatty on Apr 9, 2009 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Salutations, all.

… why can’t the other teams lose when we want them to?

by OldDave on Apr 9, 2009 9:14 PM EDT reply actions

Because when you’re relying on the other teams to help, you’re already f******.

by John Beatty on Apr 9, 2009 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Exactly ...

… but I thought I’d throw it out there anyway.

by OldDave on Apr 9, 2009 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Also ...

… I should have been more specific — why is it the #1 team in the east and the hottest team in the east are losing tonight? I’m not surprised, but it’s a bit frustrating.

So ...

.. how’s T-Vo doing tonight?

by OldDave on Apr 9, 2009 9:20 PM EDT reply actions

Not too bad. It’s only 2-2 because the PP unit turned the puck over and couldn’t get back fast enough to break up a shorthanded 3 -on-2.

by John Beatty on Apr 9, 2009 9:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Anyone watching the NCAA Frozen Four Semifinals?

… I wanted to record them, but since I’m stuck at work, nada.

Question...

… should I record the 0-dark-30 rebroadcast of this game? Worth watching?

Nah, but watch the highlights for Hedberg’s huge save on Barky.
