Florida Panthers will open 2009 Training Camp in Nova Scotia
From the official site:
The Florida Panthers announced today that they will open their 2009 training camp in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia on Saturday, Sept. 12 and will play their first preseason game against the Ottawa Senators at the Halifax Metro Centre on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. ADT ( 6 p.m. EST).
Florida Panthers General Manager Jacques Martin and Bluenose League President Ralston MacDonnell made the announcement this afternoon in Halifax, which calls for the Panthers to open training camp in Nova Scotia for the next three years (2009, 2010, 2011.)
That settles that.

So, to recap for you season seat owners out there. Prices might stay the same, but you’ll be getting one less regular season home game. Oh, and with the Cats training in Nova Scotia and then hopping across the pond, how many home preseason games do you think we’ll see? I’d set the over/under at 0.5.
Not sure any of this “Home-away-from-home” stuff has had the desired effect. The western pre-season road trips certainly gained the Cats nothing beyond a few more stamps on passports.
I understand the thinking, but the execution has been underwhelming. Perhaps in the eastern hemisphere this may change…
It’s a good thing Pres. Yormark made staying local during the summer such a priority (Denis Potvin)… I guess you can’t make money on preseason, so let ’em go where they want.
Something tells me the fine citizens of Whereverthehellthisis, Canada aren’t really that excited about seeing the Panthers training camp… but what do I know.
And as stated before, this thought process hasn’t exactly proven successful in recent memory. When’s the last time the Panthers weren’t cellar dwellers after the first month or so of the season? Just another addition to a depressingly long list of management decisions I don’t understand.
Found this list of 2008 training camp sites. Don’t see many teams starting their camps with a 2 week long “bonding session” far from home…
The “bonding sessions” are quite probably a thing of the past, their loss to blamed on the economics of sending the club away for extended periods beyond regular road trips, obviously.
Didn’t do the Cats much good anyhow!
