Panthers Tuesday Links-of-Wonder

A remarkably slow 24 hours around PantherLand, but with the Draft only days away, that's not surprising. Randy and his troops are no doubt keeping rather busy. Hopefully. Please.

  • Puck the Media has an inspired take on fans of each of the league's thirty clubs. Smellin' like roses, we do not.
  • Kevin Allen (via Twitter): "To talk to Bouwmeester before July 1, Florida Panthers want a draft pick, which would become a 1st rounder if he signs". No arguments here.
  • Denis Potvin talks a little Bouw, while Brian Burke's Leafs "proceed with caution". Burke at the very least must appear to be exploring the possibility of bringing in the defenseman. Oh, and gaining the number one pick as well. Easy job, that Toronto gig.
  • Cats' minority owner Bernie Kosar seeking to consolidate his bankruptcies. Sad tale.
  • More Bouwmeester general confusion at the Edmonton Sun:

"It's difficult to assess defencemen on losing teams. This is a damned if you do, damned if you don't kind of play: You might regret signing him, you might regret not paying the price to get him."
  • If you hadn't noticed, there's been some post-season theatrics out of the Tampa Bay Lightning of late. Ownership squabbles, goaltender defections, you name it. Raw Charge has had a busy day keeping up. Well done, Cassie and John.
  • A good day for ex-Cats, as Original Panther Dave Lowry and Roberto Luongo plush-doll Jamie McLennan are named assistant coaches with the Calgary Flames.
  • Friendly reminder: the Panthers are holding a Draft Party at the Carolina Ale House in Weston on Friday evening. Lots of your friends - new and old - will be in attendance. Just show up and we'll all have a few laughs at the Islanders' expense.
Poll
Today's Poll-Lacking-in-Creativity (hat-tip to the Cats' Facebook page)is quite simple. At the Draft, the Panthers have the 14th overall pick. They should:
Use it!
6 votes
Trade it!
8 votes
Move up!
16 votes

It’s early, and we’re only 12 votes into this, but I’m blown away that so many wish to move up in the draft. Fascinating.

Ain’t gonna be easy!

Hey, great blog with lots of good opinions…I’m happy to find you!

If we could trade Vokoun and the 14th to the Avs for the 3rd overall would you do it? Would they?…they do need goaltending. We could grab Duchene, keep Andy and add either Clemmenson or maybe Yann Denis and I feel we’d be just as solid in net as we were this past season.

I agree with others that we need to bring Dvo and Scratchy back. Both were heroes all season long. Whatever happens the Panthers need to really shake things up.

I’d take that in a second. Especially if they could grab Clemmensen or Conklin as backup. Or even Danis or Nittymaki.

Are you guys sold enough on Anderson to think he could carry the load? Isles fans are coveting him as a 1A, but I assumed y’all would prefer Vokoun. (Incidentally, I think a Vokoun-Danis tandem would be solid.)

As for the draft poll: Trade down! Like 26th-ish … :)

Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.

It’s more that the team tends to play better in front of him and we hope he can carry the load. Thus our qualification of the prospects of him as a starter with a backup we know can step up if need be.

Thrilled to have you, Botch!

Clemmenson would be a dream come true, so for that reason I’m writing it off. Thinking a “Shakeup” is exactly what we’re going to receive in a few days.

More W4E: remain shocked at the poll results. Never imagined this.

Why not? The draft is a crapshoot anyway. Why not go for the gusto, right?

We may hit the draft party after our closing. Still working out the scheduling, but I think we’re going to try to be there.
