Alex Tanguay "sweepstakes": Montreal out...Panthers in the mix?
Plenty of interest in this guy remains among the Sunrise Faithful...
(Alex) Tanguay is two years removed from his 81 points-in-81 games campaign in Calgary. He has 580 points in 659 career regular-season games in the NHL and still has oodles of offensive talent.
- ESPN's Pierre LeBrun
Last season's salary of $5.375M seems an incredible leap for the Cats, especially given Tanguay's shoulder issues of the past year. However, he's still out there...

He’d be a good pick up. Money being an issue though he may not be suitable for FLA.
He got near 1 point per game last year with the Habs and was a solid PP performer. He’ll be a great asset to any team that gets him.

All things considered, he’s far less than $1M per year (last season) over David Booth. Put into those terms, perhaps we’re onto something.

Been hearing rumors he’s headed to Russia’s KHL. Would make sense, because I have no idea why he isn’t signed by somebody at this point. Something’s gotta be going on with him.
I’d eat my cowbell if he went to the “K”. Must be a more suitable alternative to that over here.

yea, by “hearing rumors,” i really mean just reading speculation on some sites that don’t really know anything… lol.
This from Pierre Lebrun’s ESPN.com blog; ""We’re talking to several teams," Tanguay’s veteran agent, former NHL goalie Bob Sauve, told ESPN.com in French on Friday. “Lots of teams have expressed interest. We’ve had a few offers, but not yet something that we want to firm up.”
“We’re going to take our time,” added Sauve. “We’re going to wait, not only in terms of money, but also in terms of fit.”
Definitely a smart move at his point to let his suitors fight over him.
He’s one of the few remaining UFA with a lot of buzz, so he can take some time, let the offers develop and then pick a place.
Hopefully that place will be sunny, with palm trees, year-round golf and has a large mall across the street from the arena that has large Vegas-like billboards.
Tanguay is definitely driving up his value by waiting this all out.
Nice list in your last post of remaining FA’s. There is a lot of talent still out there.
Also some nice 3rd pairing D men, which the Cats can probably use as well.

Just wait until the days before camps begin around the league.
