Panthers sign Jordan Leopold to 1-year, $1.75 million deal

According to their Twitter page, the Cats signed the new-Bo Jordan Leopold to a 1-year contract worth $1.75 millionSkrastins got $2.75 mil over 2 years ($1.375 per), so can we assume that Leopold should be 'as good' if not better then Skras?

Meanwhile, suddenly the Cats defense isn't as bad as it was an hour ago, and neither is Randy.  It's going to be a see-saw for a couple days, so don't anybody go jumping off any cliffs just yet.  There is still a lot of faith in our younger D (still think Ellerby is going to be a beast), and I hear we may sign some guy named Brian Allen, who I'm told is pretty good.

We're one solid scorer away from having legitimate playoff hopes that can be dashed once again *coughTanguaycough*.  Rejoice!

He deserves huge praise

People maligned him for not trading Bouwmeester at the deadline last season saying the Panthers wouldn’t get anything in return. If I was a Florida fan I’d be very happy. He kept Bouwmeester to give you guys a legit shot at the playoffs and still got some value back.

Amen to that. Kind of hard to fathom that the Panthers would go from almost 4th to tied for 8th.

Not sure if it was Sexton or Martin who made the call – guessing it was JM – but I’m all about the sticking-to-a-plan approach.

Assuming there is one.

maybe we should buy him a case of redbull

Is it just me, or are we still short 1 D-man, and a scorer? I will miss Scratch, he was the Secret Service, diving in front of every shot. Andy is missed, but, Clemmy is a solid replacement. Oh, and did I mention, I am soooooooooooooo happy Bo is gone. Players are subject to the laws of physics and either attract or repel the Stanley Cup. If Bo was rated in this category in NHL 10, he’d be repelling at a 99% (plus Olli at 101%, Calgary doesn’t win in the next century). Not that we did better in 96, Beezer was a 98% (lol).

Anyway, Leopold is a good addition in the PdB system. As far as the last D (Marchant?, Numminen?, Martin Skoula?, Philippe Boucher?, suggestions?)

A forward that would let us roll 4 lines (a key to winning at this level), (Marchant?, Afinogenov?, Bertuzzi??? (jk/lol), LaRose?, Peca?,Parrish?, Morrison?, Antropov, Comrie(he comes with Hilary Duff)??, or Sykora?. They all work.

C’mon, 2 more skaters, that’s all we need, pleeze?

BTW, go Murray, beat Roddick.

No, not Bertuzzi!!!

Yes, we’re still down a D-man. Look for the sixth guy to be a re-signed Steve Eminger after he doesn’t get any offers, or Keaton Ellerby from Rochacha. Or maybe even Jassen Cullimore if Ellerby doesn’t quite look ready. We might be OK on D this year. I’ll be a lot happier without Jay Bo on the ice when we’re up by 1 with three minutes to go.

Yes, we need a scorer. Problem is, Sexton seems to think it’s Booth. Frolik should be good for 30 this year, but we should have someone better than Weiss between them.

Nailed it, Johnny. The simple fact is Bouwmeester is a fourth forward. His defensive skills have never impressed anyone. It’s all been about the offense and “smooth skating” abilities. Can only imagine the cursing that went on in the Skrastins household following a few games last year.

by Donny Rivette on Jul 3, 2009 1:11 AM EDT up reply actions

I’ll skip Numminen as well. Skoula? Perhaps. Not Numminen. Anyway, just commenting:

Marchant is 3rd/4th line (Soup is every bit as good). Of the forwards named, only Comrie is available, and while his better half truly is his Better Half, I’m on the Tanguay train. Comrie’s no slouch, just not in the same category.

Peca’s a locker room band-aid. His good days ended around 2002. Afi? KHL, baby.

Boucher? Older but steady. Not bad.

Parrish lives to crush the Cats, so he’s out. Sykora’s older than my car’s fuel filter. Scratch it. Again, all comments from a guy who pretends to know (e4).

Tanguay, please.

why do people keep commenting On Frozen Pond about Vokoun to Philly?? did i miss something or are they all just talking more out of their a$$es again

by alterego6487 on Jul 3, 2009 2:59 PM EDT reply actions

The second. Why would Philly get Vokoun after signing two goalies? That makes no sense. It was a rumor that made a sort of sense when Craig Anderson was an impending UFA and Philly had two impending UFA goaltenders. With Andy in Colorado and Emery and Boucher signed for next year in Philly, the T-Vo rumors make no sense on either side.
