Sportsnet: Florida Panthers planning season without a new GM
Current Asst. GM Randy Sexton: How about adding an "interim" to the title? Or removing the "Asst."?
Very little to go on so far, but here's the bit we do have (and on the surface it ain't pleasant):
Sportsnet has learned that the Florida Panthers are not expected to name a new general manager this season. The day-to-day hockey operations will continue to be handled by assistant general manager Randy Sexton.
Looks like Sexton's the man for the immediate future. I supported his being named GM since the draft, but never imagined this process would still be rolling on the eve of training camps.
Another situation where the potential sale of the club is preventing a full-timer to be named? This is getting downright funky.

Really bad news, IMO. It seems like everyone who is not involved with actually playing just wants this season to be over before it begins. No GM, no real owner, no sale, no direction. Maybe this will turn into a “Major League” type season. All the suits want to do is fold the team, but surprise! The players come together for an amazing season! (Yea, right…)
I am disappointed by this news… And quite frankly, I’m disappointed with the way a lot of things are going this off-season. You put your faith in the people in charge, and season after season they continue to let you down… I agree that it seems as if the organization is throwing this season to the wind.
I am placing a lot of faith in Coach DeBoer this year…
No GM
There is no way that Sexton is a GM in the NHL. We will never go anywhere with this team as it is now, or with Sexton, who failed miserably this offseason when he had the opportunity to show us that he can do the job. He is a born loser just like the rest of the Panthers management. There will never be a winner in South Florida as long as Cohan and Sexton are making decisions.
Keep in mind, the GM (or assistant GM…whatever) takes orders from the president as well as ownership. I just don’t see an inactive summer as Sexton’s “fault”. If he’s not allowed to spend, that’s a case of him obeying his superiors.
