Despite recent success, Panthers' lack of scoring won't fly against Capitals

A quick rundown of individual numbers from the Panthers' previous two trips to Verizon Center this season, purely for fun ('cuz, like, knowledge is power).

Much has changed with this club since December 3rd, when Stephen Weiss and Bryan Allen combined for dos goals in the nation's capital: few more wins, a GAA which has spiraled steadily downward, Nathan Horton taking Cory Stillman's favorite workout bike.

Of course, there was the minor issue of Washington completing that evening with tres times Florida's total...

Star-divide

Just to clarify this early, David Booth was out of the lineup for both contests, while Nathan Horton went pointless.

Anyway, the active-roster guys to lean on going into tonight's game against the Caps:

Not exactly a Quinnipiac-style sample to work with, but during previous two games in D.C. the Cats had scrambled for six goals, while the home club settled for a mere thirteen.

Goaltender Scott Clemmensen - he's Tomas Vokoun's backup, by the way - started both nights in Washington (here's the first), escaping with an 0-1 record and a 7.52 GAA, leaving him rated just short of Alex Ovechkin in both name recognition and popularity for a spell in the downtown area. And Ovie didn't even play.

Given T-Vo's recent performances, Clemmer's all-around Nice Guy persona has been easy to let slip. As long as someone's minding the store, the customers will be happy.

The Panthers aren't scoring often, but they're allowing very few goals at the same time: who honestly noticed the 6-1-2 record over their past nine?

Hi Litter Box Cats!

Not that it really matters but It’s no longer the MCI center, It’s now the Verizon Center!

Tom Brady is Sidney Crosby, except Tom Brady has felt the touch of a woman, and has his own house.

It’s still the Phone Booth to me …

by OldDave on Jan 29, 2010 7:43 AM EST up reply actions

It’ll always be the Phone Booth. :-) Easier than $TELCO Center to remember.

…at least it never went through a stint as WorldCom Center, like MCI did… :-p

I need a snappy signature...

Yeah, MCI Center became Verizon Center in 2006. By my reck about four years ago. Good to know! ’cuz, like, knowledge is power

That’s it? And to think I tried to type “National Rent-A-Car Center” half a dozen times.

Thanks, folks. Yahoo!’s got some ’splaining to do.

starter

Please tell me Vokoun is starting tonight….

by SunriseIceAxe on Jan 29, 2010 10:17 AM EST reply actions

As per this link Vokoun is the starter tonight.
I would think anything different and DeBoer woould have his shot himself in the head.
Leave Clemmer operating the door to the bench. For now.. Not his fault, but Vokoun is HOT!

No idea, really. Boudreau said, basically, “there will be a goalie,” but he has not announced whether it will be Neuvirth or Theodore yet.

I need a snappy signature...
