Monday Caterwaul - Panthers Open Forum

Dvorak with three. Attendance within sniffing distance of a sellout. Hats - and rats - on the ice. Panthers wrangle a regulation win...at home. Still hating the new unis? Coach Pete buys into Oshawa. Rochester's Graham Mink is taking your questions tomorrow. Cats prospect Garrett Wilson had a big week. And Tuesday will see the culmination of what has been a terrific World Junior Championship.

The floor is yours...

Personally I think it rivals Pittsburgh’s; bit more aggressive with navy as the base color.

I like them, they are unique and have some cool pathces to them to go with the design and colors. Plus they aren’t the cheap, cop-out “Initimidating Black” style that a lot of other teams go with.

Still wish they woulda brought back the red. Oh well. They aren’t hideous, they aren’t “gotta-get-em-now” good.

I find the weakest element to be the logo itself. I really like the secondary – which many hate – but still wonder what the old stick/sun logo might have looked like among the new colors.

not crazy about the new secondary. would have liked a rat if done right.

And now for something completely different…

5 of our next 7 are against teams 7 points or closer above us in the standings. Do the next 2 weeks make or break the season? Or is it still January hockey… the real stuff doesn’t matter until post-trade deadline?

by Karl Selvig on Jan 4, 2010 4:57 PM EST reply actions

Someone needs to make a break up the standings and hold on. The longer we sit back, the less likely it is that we make it. I haven’t run numbers yet, though. It’s all still too close to call is my guess. I think the team is better off down the stretch if they’re back in a playoff spot by the Olympic break.

That’s 19 more games: 9 road/10 home, 16EC/3WC, 10 against teams within four points of us right now, 7 divisional games. Yeah, I’d say the next five weeks are pretty important. Out of those, I’d call the games against Toronto, Montreal, Tampa and Atlanta the most crucial. And most of them are in the next three-and-a-half weeks.

We meet all of those teams again after the Olympics, as well. Tampa a whopping three times, all other divisional opponents one. Given the home and home against Tampa to end the season, I’d hope if the Panthers are going to go for it, they pass or get some distance on the Lightning. Because they love nothing more than to knock us out of a playoff spot at the end of the season.

I don’t think they will necesarily make or break the season because there will still be some time to turn it around if it goes bad but this is an AMAZING opportunity for the Cats to announce that they are very much a legit playoff contender

Dvorak

I can’t believe he’s played over 1,000 games. Dude still looks like he’s on the verge of breaking out.

Hard to argue his consistency being among the best on the club this season.
