Over his career, center Stephen Weiss has 18 points (6g, +8) in 25 contests against the Maple Leafs, making Toronto his "favorite" club to play against among those he's faced less than 30 times. In fact, the eight power play points (3g) he's collected vs the Twigs rank fifth against any organization, regardless of games-played. Special-teams numbers - at least those of the offensive variety - have been a vile, tortured tale to this point, but Weiss remains the club's go-to center, and as such will continue to find opportunities to reverse course on the power play cruise-to-nowhere.
Hot on the heels of his induction last night into Broward County's Sports Hall of Fame, the Cats will "honor" former goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck before tonight's game; though why a Toronto matchup was chosen is beyond me (the Rangers, perhaps?). A nice tribute - and long overdue - but it's difficult to get stoked in the absence of the only proper salute: Beezer's #34 heading to the rafters. What's the holdup, anyway? And for the record, Florida claimed Vanbiesbrouck from the Canucks during the '93 Expansion Draft, not the Rags.
Since October 26th - the infamous Clemmensen/Orr disaster - the Leafs have lost six in a row, including last night's drubbing 4-0 smackdown in Tampa Bay.
