"...He is such a stud that some clubs, possibly the Bruins, are expected to approach Florida GM Dale Tallon about prying away (Erik) Gudbranson’s rights this season, possibly tossing the Panthers a roster player now and swapping first-round picks."

Um how about no unless the deal is so sweet it’d be considered a steal by the Panthers.

No way I’ d do a deal with them when Gudbranson was involved. Remember they were the team that didnt want to give us Seguin..

I’m sure Tallon recalls that as well.

I think there’s a typo in this article because Gudbranson plus a first for the Bruins’ first is madness.

Agreed…you’re basically trading for the hope that you draft well again. What’s there to be gained?

Does he call it Luongo underwear?

Seriously, you’re spot on. Nothing gained – not that would have would have prevented previous Panther GM’s from doing the deal.

I gotcha now…FLA sending Guds and a first for BOS’s first. Pure suicide.

Also - and no way I'd headline it considering the source:

Garrioch:

GM Dale Tallon would be looking for a first-round pick for Vokoun. While there aren’t many teams looking for goalies, don’t be surprised if the Bolts start sniffing around.

Enter if you dare.

I still think that if Tampa maintains a spot, they pull a deal with us. I don’t like doing the in division thing, but I’m just not seeing a team in the West with a goalie problem. Bringing back a pick and either Ellis or Smith would be an acceptable deal.

by badger737 on Dec 12, 2010 2:42 PM EST up reply actions

It would have to be a biblically remarkable deal; not sure either of the goalies you mentioned are that much better than Clemmensen, if at all.

I think you misunderstand – Just saying that if Vokoun gets moved we’re going to need a backup to start a few games. Clemmensen would be the starter. I’d still take Ellis or Smith as a second goalie, but that’s all. I think the stats just show that Markstrom isn’t quite ready yet.

To hell with that. Bring up Plante to sit on the bench. At least he’s cheap. Plus I’d want to see a roster player if we’re sending Vokoun to a SE division team.

The only flaw is that roster players I would want are roster players we wouldn’t get.

by badger737 on Dec 13, 2010 9:13 PM EST up reply actions

Hah, so i’m sure this guy is just throwing stuff at a wall and seeing what sticks, but as he details it the deal would break down something like this:

Roster Player (Krejci, maybe?)
Late 1st rounder

for

Gudbranson
Early 1st rounder

Heh. Good luck with that.

Consider the source. Garrioch is notorious for stirring the pot. Like some other “blogger” out there.
This would result in pure suicide in my household if this actually were to happen.
As well as in the Panthers fanbase. This kid is the real deal, and we cannot trade him. Unless it’s a 3 way deal and Tampa gives us Stamkos

by The Rat Trick on Dec 12, 2010 2:59 PM EST reply actions

Maybe...

That splatter was so unconcisely written, maybe he meant swapping both of the B’s 1st round picks.. Which would give us the Leafs (Likely better) and the Bs picks. Wheeler is another possible roster player….

still a bad deal, but makes more sense….

by LAUSMAN on Dec 12, 2010 8:19 PM EST reply actions

Yea, I can’t see any reason why Tallon would do anything like this at all. A total fallout from top to botton would be in order. This could be the worst thing that they ever did, if it happened.

by The Rat Trick on Dec 12, 2010 8:30 PM EST reply actions

No offense to allen, but worse than the Luongo deal?

by Donny Rivette on Dec 12, 2010 9:52 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

But I just don’t see Tallon doing something that “he who should not be named” would do. There’s no upside in uncertainty and this year’s draft class isn’t as good as last years.

by coasterg on Dec 12, 2010 11:04 PM EST up reply actions

Yes. Luongo deal wasn’t as bad as many make it out to be. Bert got hurt. (sorry about that rhyming), Auld did as well, then JM messed with the kids head. Allen is a decent defenceman. Not to re-hash but we got what we could, and all hands on deck agreed.

by The Rat Trick on Dec 13, 2010 3:04 PM EST up reply actions

Would Take a Mother Load!!

I know Dale believes he really got the best available player last draft. With that said, it will obviously take as much or I believe even more than what the Leafs gave up for Kessel for Dale to deal Guds. Looking forward..moving at the deadline or before UFA’s Vokoun, McCabe, Stillman, Higgins, Reasoner and perhaps Devo, 6 players of value and experience bringing us back some chips in the draft and freeing up almost 20 Million of cap space(38%) in the process. Sure things are still very grim, but obviously there is a bright light shinning at the end of what has been a very long tunnel! :-D

The only way Tallon does this deal is if he knows Guds won’t sign. Tallon will only then ship him off to highest bidder rather than let him reenter the draft for nothing. But that deadline’s a ways off. I think that the columnists was just dreaming out loud.

by jimmyh71 on Dec 13, 2010 11:36 AM EST reply actions

The kid will likely be a Norris Trophy candidate by his 3rd year in the league, provided Tallon and the owners can fill out the rest of the roster and keep the only real talent in the lineup (Weiss, Booth, Frolik) here for several more seasons.

He will not be traded. Now Vokoun… hello 1st rounder and a centerman!

by Ryan Meier on Dec 13, 2010 7:50 PM EST up reply actions

I'm sure he's right

GMs are going to ask about him. I’m sure they all ask about all kinds of players who aren’t available. But that doesn’t stop them asking, just in case.

Massive internet issues at home the last two days. Still attempting to resolve.

Otherwise, GR has some pics of Tvo’s new mask at OFP, and Garrett Wilson has been cut from Canada’s World Junior squad. Oh and John McFarland was traded (between OHL clubs).

Sounds like this blogger, Kevin Paul Dupont has wishful thinking on the brain. That deal will never happen. Unless, its three first round picks + Seguin. LOL So, no Gudbranson will not go anywhere….

However, on the flip side of that, an argument could be made for Ellerby to be the one traded for a first rounder. The defensive depth is already impressive in the Panther lineup. If the Panthers keep McCabe, then trading ellerby could be a possibility.

by Hawkseye on Dec 14, 2010 12:07 PM EST reply actions

Vocoun.....

Problem……Stats wise he is not a top 5 goaltender in this league anymore…..ALSO…over the past couple years …MANY great young "no name " goaltenders have emerged and the demand for a Vokie is just not there like it was 3 years ago. Granted …he’s great but we aren’t going to get what you bloggers think we should be getting for him….It’s just not a "goalies " market.

by LAUSMAN on Dec 14, 2010 2:45 PM EST reply actions

And whatever the final outcome is for Nabokov his presence will weaken demand as well, if he chooses the NHL route.

Let’s be honest here, this summer Gudbranson was worth a top 3 pick, what has changed since then? The fact that everyone knows he’ll hold out for big money someday?
At the very most Gudbranson is worth slightly more than a top 3 pick right now.

Not to mention he has the identical career projection as the very familiar ’98 4th overall pick.

Undervalued!!

Ellerby would not bring even close to as much as he is worth. He is right on the cusp now. To give up on him at this point would be a mistake! Better Allen, Wides, Caber…the older and more expensive…We could have a unbelieveable top 4 D for the future. Just not imagining it without Eller!
