Looks like the purge/fire sale is on. They’re obviously unhappy with the response they’ve gotten from calling out the players and the first trade, so they’re blowing up the team.

thats essentially an open letter admitting they’re going to completely overhaul the team… other than a couple of names (vokoun, booth) , all i can say is FINALLY.

I guess I picked the right day to take off, even if I do have a ton of stuff to do here at the house.

I find it quite comical. Why the need for “open letters”? They should have signed some legitimate talent in the off-season instead of cheaping out. Every Panther fan and their dog knew this team would be carried by Vokoun and nothing else this season. Now management suddenly gets it? Hysterical.

You have to read that as an open letter saying they’re tanking the season.

And I hate to say it but I’m a fan of getting a good lotto pick for the next draft. Tear it down and rebuild it, just remember to keep the pieces that are good or have good potential.

Also a 5th round this year. San Jose sends Buffalo’s second-round pick. Also per TSN. Looks like the Hurricanes fire sale is on as well.

OK, sounds good

Love some rosterbating discussion. And I’ll be glad to tell you who you couldn’t have if hades froze over.

I thought, though, that Booth was untouchable?

At any rate, Horton would look impeccable in a Nashville sweater, and my word do we need some scoring. And we’re most definitely buyers.

The only deal which would bring down the roof would be trading Booth. So if anyone’s truly untouchable he’s it.

Season ticket backlash of biblical proportions.

by Donny Rivette on Feb 12, 2010 11:28 AM EST up reply actions

so

Interested in any of Dan Hamhuis, Mike Santorelli, Ryan Jones, or, cough, Wade Belak?

Out of those guys (feel free to include a pick or two) what would it take to acquire Horton?

by Chris Burton on Feb 12, 2010 11:28 AM EST up reply actions

I know we can’t have Shea Weber, but I’d take back Marcel Goc or Jordan Tootoo with a decent pick and a prospect at this point. Horton’s was playing well when he got hurt, but he’s got no support here. I’d love to see a gritty guy like Tootoo here. Booth-Matthias-Tootoo would be a nice gritty, dig the puck out of the corner and score a dirty goal line.

Florida Panthers: Giving the league a punching bag since 2000.

by Johnny B on Feb 12, 2010 11:29 AM EST up reply actions

hehe

I think you just want Tootoo so none of your guys get the crap beaten out of them again ;).

Goc and Tootoo were both just re-signed to new deals, so they won’t be moved. Especially Tootoo-it would be a total marketing disaster if they moved him. In the city of Nashville he’s the most marketable player.

On the Forecheck-where Patric Hornqvist is never underappreciated.

by Chris Burton on Feb 12, 2010 11:31 AM EST up reply actions

Really? Interesting. I understand why. Probably much the same reason for Booth here. Really, I want Tootoo because our team is soft. The only guys really willing to go out there and fight for pucks are Booth, Matthias, Horton (this season) and a bunch of guys playing in Rochester.

Florida Panthers: Giving the league a punching bag since 2000.

by Johnny B on Feb 12, 2010 11:33 AM EST up reply actions

yeah

Tootoo will hit anyone or anything, doesn’t really discriminate.

The reason he’s so marketable is because Nashville is a football town. Tootoo plays hockey like football, sort of. So he’s popular.

If we were in Hamilton (god forbid), Shea Weber would be one of the league’s most popular players.

I like Weber. I grabbed him early for my fantasy team and our friends in Nashville about blew a gasket because I got him before either of them could.

I can’t comment on the rest of those players as other than Dan Hamhuis, I haven’t seen much from them. I haven’t seen many Preds games this season. My problem with a lot of the guys on that team is the same as the ones we have here. Too much money for not enough scoring.

If that happens, do they play Salak or get a backup in the trade? If I was GM, I’d push for a backup in the deal.

Trade for

This is a rebuild, so I assume the Panthers want youth.

Would they take a chance on a guy like Liles from the Avs. He’s odd man out right now in Colorado, and he’s a bit overpaid, but he’s still a solid player and would be a good player, especially in the east.

That said, I’m not sure you guys want another puck-moving defenseman who is a bit weak in his own end.

I was thinking Liles + (3rd rounder) Draft pick for Stillman, but I honestly have no idea if that’s something FLA would be interested in.

Eh

He’s just the odd-man out. Avs have 8 quality healthy defensemen, and the Avs farm system is stocked with similar defensemen coming up soon. 4 of the Avs best 6 prospects are at D, and all play a similar style to Liles.

Shattenkirk in particular is playing at BU now and is likely to join the team next season, and he’s going to be a flat-out stud. With the emergence of Cumiskey as well, Liles has just become expendable.

He’s a good player, but overpaid. That said I think he’s a top-5 guy in the league and could help the Panthers. He’s an upgrade over a guy like Leopold for sure.

From McKenzie:

TSNBobMcKenzie Horton, Weiss, Frolik, Booth, Ballard and Kulikov are core guys. I’m not buying a lot of rumors I’m hearing on guys like Horton and Booth.

by Donny Rivette on Feb 12, 2010 2:42 PM EST reply actions

This I believe. Both the core guys and the calls.

by coasterg on Feb 12, 2010 2:43 PM EST up reply actions

Yes and no. They are core guys and a lot of it may be wishful thinking. But then you don’t have a meeting about “big changes” and send out that kind of message if you’re trading Stillman, Seidenberg and Frolik.

Weiss, Frolik probably on the block. Horton, Booth, Kulikov – would take heaven and earth to trade for them most likely.

by coasterg on Feb 12, 2010 2:47 PM EST up reply actions

I agree about Booth and Kulikov. But Horton may get something valuable enough that they’ll send him off.

I heard we are going to trade Horton and Booth in a package deal for Weiss, Frolik, Ballard, and Kulikov in exchange for time spent on injured reserve.

Winter Olympics are intense, I feel like you can die in just about every event in that sport. (Skii Jumping, figure skating if Tanya Harding is involved)

yeesh, that is terrible. I dont know how anyone can feel safe doing that.

by milhouse on Feb 12, 2010 3:01 PM EST up reply actions

10 mins to 3 now so probably start hearing things from 3 to 5pm as the league clears them.

by coasterg on Feb 12, 2010 2:49 PM EST reply actions

Wow. Glad I finally got that upped this morning.
