"It was [expletive] brutal. We have too many guys who don’t compete. You can’t win in this game unless you’re ready to show up and go to war every night. We don’t have enough of them. This is not type of team we want. We’re going to keep making changes until we get that. It takes time. It’s like turning around the Titanic and not a rowboat.’’

- Panthers GM Randy Sexton, following his team's 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes.

At least someone realizes this team is a disaster

Someone besides us, that is. I seem to remember a lot of us proclaiming doom in the summer.

I recall a few of those myself, but won’t go the extra nine due to a self-imposed ban on uber-profanities.

“Keep making changes”?

Like swapping out Oreskovich for Tarnasky? Those changes?

Reality strikes at Panther Parkway? And its at the top of the chain.

I’m hoping this is the long awaited reality check that should’ve happened about 7 years ago.

Lots of names being tossed around, and I’m not about to start putting names in the hat but from what I read it’s a big trade. It is however a rumor and I have no idea where it started or came from.

If we lose to Vancouver you can bet things will happen……..I hope!

Bure – traded for nothing
Whitney – traded for Kevyn Adams
Mellanby – traded for David Morissette
Luongo – traded for Allen
Bouwmeester – traded for Leopold
Svehla – traded for Yushkevich
Yuskevich – traded for Jaroslav Bednar and Juraj Kolnik, (I think)
Jokinen – traded for Ballard
Ozolinsh – I dont remember, lol
Bertuzzi – traded for Matthias
Dvorak – traded for Vernon
Larionov – traded for ,,,,someone who didn’t play a game
Boyle – traded for Martin Tuma
Hagman – traded for 7th round pick
Huselius – traded for Steve Montador
Kozlov – traded for Christian Berglund and Victor Uchevatov
Kuba – traded for Rocky Thompson
Spacek – traded for Anders Eriksson
Nilson – traded for 2nd round pick (Booth) wooo!
Roberts – traded for Noah Welch
Welch – traded for Steve Emminger who was let go for nothing

We stole the Nilson trade!
As a long time panthers fan I consider the trade deadline to be a recurring nightmare (note: not all of the above were deadline deals).
We’ve won a few trades here and there (we got Svehla for absolutely nothing!), but beware panthers fans there is nothing good to come from selling (trading established players for lottery tickets) and I expect the next month to be unbearably maddening. Still think the on-ice play is so frustrating? Think Again. I say we go for the number one or two pic if we make any trades, its been 16 years and we have never had a good offensive prospect.

That’s some list, Puke.

Some of these could be studied to death (Roberts for Welch for Emmy for nothing; Gary’s retired and Welch can’t stick in the bigs), but otherwise it ain’t a grand history.

At least it is indeed history.

You really have to look at the General Managers during those eras. They were horrid.

I’d give Sexton the benefit of the doubt, he did what he could considering the constraints he was under at the time. Bou is a good example, our illustrious former GM basically was ready to let him go for nothing. We at least got Leopold (and a pick I think) in return.

Getting picks is a good idea, the immediate return may not be there but used wisely they are very beneficial. Either getting players or packaging picks to get established players. Plus the only way you get talent to develop is through picks. Talent that proves out is a long term asset that is more beneficial, imo, than a rental.

I even commented on it! CLG goes “look…it’s Jose!”

Way to show the flag, captain.
