Florida Panthers / NHL Trade Deadline Blowout: Wednesday at The Box

Panther_medium

We'll probably go with another title (the one above seems too subtle), but here's the deal: Litter Box Cats will be live-blogging / open-threading / chatting / whatever beginning at 11am EST tomorrow and continuing throughout the afternoon until Gary Bettman cuts the power to his fax machine.

Get to Publix before they run short on Hot Pockets, Toilet Ducks, and cheap Merlot as the NHL Trade Deadline kicks off right here at your Florida Panthers Colossus. All the Cats rumors, speculation, analysis, and trades that we can fit on a grey-market desktop monitor.

We'll also be keeping an eye on Twitter (@litterboxcats) as well as the major hockey outlets for everything Panthers related on a day which annually proves to be an internet love-fest of ridiculous proportions.

Potvin

Just heard Potvin on NHL Home Ice. He was suggesting a good trade would be Vokoun to the Caps for Laich, a defensive prospect (forgot the name) and maybe Thedore.

heard about this rumour last week. not sure if it makes much sense for us as Theodore is a free agent after this year and could walk, therefore giving us a prospect as the only thing to show for Vokoun.
But then again, we’ve done that before huh!

Sexton is in a bind. If we are rebuilding, then trade Vokoun for some assets, and include a player or two that can play now. We’ve screwed up draft picks too many times to take that gamble, and this years draft is rumoured not to be very deep.

I still think that Vokoun to Chicago may happen. Regardless of what most people think, Vokoun has been solid and doesn’t deserve to sit through us rebuilding. again.

so everyone thinks voky is gonna get traded huh?

theodore’s career is done. that’d not be a good exchange

Well, it would be a salary dump for next year as his contract is up. I’m not sure that’s a good move because they’d need to find a goaltender for next year.

How long until Markstrom is ready?

by studyaid on Mar 3, 2010 9:17 AM EST up reply actions

but, we do need to do something for the seasons ahead. Like Donny said, better to do that and show up strong in the post season than do some half-assed stuff this season and be a one and done team in the postseason, if that even happens.

by SunriseIceAxe on Mar 3, 2010 9:07 AM EST reply actions

This team is not making the playoffs. No matter what anyone says, the season’s over. If Sexton can get good deals now, he should trade now. If not, then he should wait until summer. But he should be building for the future. Forget this year.

However, as far as Vokoun is concerned, forget this year, we need him next year, so they shouldn’t send him off unless the return is outstanding.

seriously. On that note…I gotta head to the chiro for herniated disks i sustained a few years back. I’ll be back later. Over and out.

He was saying the idea of Laich was to get leadership in the locker room that hasn’t been there since Skrudland/Mellanby.

Right now there is no right or wrong answer on trading Vokoun. I can see it going well or exploding in our faces either way. I’m just here with my earplugs in waiting for the demo to start.

Mornin' all!

Gonna be switching over to a new post within the hour, so refresh the main page in a bit for the location we’ll be at throughout the day.

LET’S DO THIS!

I keep refreshing, and you haven’t put anything new up yet

by studyaid on Mar 3, 2010 9:51 AM EST up reply actions

I don’t want to see Vokoun leave, especially to a team inside the division. Our minor league goalie is not quite ready. Get rid of everyone, as far as I’m concerned, except for Kulikov, Booth, Mathiason, and Vokoun.

by UtopiaJon on Mar 3, 2010 9:46 AM EST reply actions

And do something for goodness sake. I am seriously not gonna renew my tix this season…and I have been a season tix holder since the beginning…if they don’t make a splash in the offseason.

volkoun is a solid #1 goaltender

Trading him would be a mistake, unless you know he won’t resign after his contract is up. Period.

Tell you what, I’d give you Timmy Thomas for him straight up. Would you do that deal?

B’s fan, in case you couldn’t tell.

I hate that I can't sign off with "bt" anymore.
