Stamkos cooks Cats with 49th, 50th goals; Lightning shank Panthers 4-3 in SO
Not going to spend much time on this, but Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos - he of less than two full seasons behind him - nailed his 50th goal of the year this evening. And as Panthers fans we are certainly stoked to have yet another 50+goal threat in the division. Huzzah.
For the Cats, Nathan Horton bagged his 20th of the year (with two assists), Stephen Weiss grabbed a goal and an assist, and Michael Frolik scored to keep the Panthers competitive to the end. Or awfully close, anyway. Scott Clemmensen - improving with each start - stopped 34 shots.
Stereotype warning: Cats put up a grand fight, looked within, dug deep, etc. Been a long year for all of us.
Anyway, congrats to Seen, and we'll do it all over again this evening as the Live Forum powers up at 4pm. Doing the "Road Trip" deal once more, this time going periods one and three at The Box, while frame two will be held at arch-nemesis(!) Raw Charge, who hosted a splendid affair in time of turmoil for both clubs.

No doubt about it.
I am FULLY rooting for Tampa tomorrow. We have the #3 pick in our hands as long as we don’t blow it with a win.
Of course, even if we do finish #28, we’ll probably lose in the lottery and pick lower.
But still….
Sigh....
Stamkos has 50 goals. Which is TWO more than Horton and Weiss COMBINED.
Seriously, are there any good stats out there for the Panthers?
Vokoun’s, if you ignore the W column…
In fairness to some of the players… As much as everyone bags on Weiss, his 28 goals this year are 8 more than his previous career high. And he’s only one point off of his career high point total from last year. Offensively, he’s been pretty good. Defensively, not so much. As for Horton, he’s 10 off his usual about 30 goals, but he missed almost 20 games.
The problem is guys like Olesz, who, playing in his first full season in a couple years, should have put up more than 28 points, 2 less than he made two seasons ago when he missed 26 games.
Florida Panthers: Giving the league a punching bag since 2000.
We should ban the name “OLESZ”, because it’s the same old story, unfortunately. There is simply nothing new to write about with the guy.
