Robak's Wheat Kings win a thriller over Calgary in Memorial Cup action Friday

IIHF World Championship

Goaltender Tomas Vokoun stopped 32 shots to spearhead the Czech Republic over Sweden, 3-2 (SO). Jonas Gustavsson (30 saves) played in place of Panthers prospect Jacob Markstrom; what a psychological war that might have been.

Russia defeated host Germany 2-1 to secure a spot in the gold medal game Sunday. Dmitry Kulikov had no points and one shot on goal in a click over 13 minutes on the ice.

On tap tomorrow: RUS (Kuli) vs. CZE (T-Vo) for gold/silver, SWE (Markstrom) vs. Germany for bronze on the final day of play.

MasterCard Memorial Cup

Defenseman Colby Robak scored a goal for Brandon as the Wheat Kings rallied to a come-from-behind victory over the Calgary Hitmen, 5-4 on Friday evening. The Wheaties outshot their opposition by a whopping 48-29, going 2-4 on the power play. Robak's club will appear in Sunday's Championship Final game against fellow Cat farmhand Scott Timmins and the Windsor Spitfires.
