From the Edmonton Journal's David Staples:

"Would you trade Nathan Horton, Stephen Weiss and Cam Fowler for Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin?"

Yet another angle on the top three...and what to do with them. BTW: I think that deal flies with Edmonton, but it is a lot to give up.

And again, who becomes FLA’s #1 center after the dust clears? If Tallon really wants to clean house, this would be an effective strategy. But is it the right one?

That is an awful lot to give up. I would much rather take Fowler at 3 and see if we could shop horton or possibly vokoun for a centerman. Weiss seems like a pretty valuable asset and I would like to see us hang on to him unless we could get a decent return.

Are you kidding me?! Thats the worst deal I’ve ever heard of, Weiss, Horton and Fowler could easily combine for 140 points every year for the next 5-8 years even if they played on different lines. Hall and Seguin will never get 140 points in a season. I dont understand why people make up there own ridiculous trades.
How about this: lets trade Vokoun, Deboer, the BankAtlantic centre and the country of Botswana for 46 95’ Toyota Camrys. Wheres my journalism degree?

Awful notion

We could still entertain the idea of moving Tomas Vokoun to the Flyers for Jeff Carter who is a better deal for us than giving away so much to get Hall or Seguin

Or dropping down from No3 in the draft with the Bruins to No15, getting Patrice Bergeron or David Krejci, especially if they get Seguin, and still getting a defensemen like McIlrath before even thinking of moving anyone off the roster.

I’m really high on Bergeron. Boston’s going to have to choose between he and Krejci, and I’m guessing they’ll deal Bergs.

Well with the Horton to Bruins rumour I wonder if it will have an impact on who we draft at No3?

We trade Horton and No33 to the Bruins for David Krejci and the No15. I’d prefer Krejci as I think he might bring the most out of Olesz.

The Bruins give someone for Seguin to pass to. With No32 and No33, they can trade back into R1 and grab someone like Alexander Petrovic if they want a defenseman.

At No3 in the draft, Tallon takes a flyer on BRETT CONNOLLY. If not for injury he’d have been up there with Seguin and Hall … he was CHL rookie of the year in 2008-09 after all … and I wonder if Tallon has concerns about all of the top 3 defensemen.

With the No15 pick he can look at Derek Foubort, Jon Merrill or Dylan McIlrath and give them a year before he thinks about moving them up maybe into the AHL or possibly in McIlrath’s case, the NHL because we really do need some aggression and hardness on our team.

Connolly becomes an immediate replacement for Horton, possibly starting like Tavares, Duschene, and Kane did as rookies, and starting on the Booth-Weiss line. He’s been known to separate an opponent from the puck using force and if he gets a clean bill of health he could go at No3.
