Around SBN: Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Barnett Fight Video Highlights

From James Murphy (who's been all over this of late):

While the parameters of the (potential) trade are unclear at this point, a very reliable source told NESN.com on Friday that the Bruins are closing in on a trade with the Florida Panthers that would see them acquire winger Nathan Horton...

According to this source, who stressed the Panthers were talking to numerous teams about Horton and could still accept another offer, "the parameters" of the possible trade were still being worked out as of late Friday afternoon, but "Horton believed he could be very close to being a Bruin."

So...Boston or bust?

The Bruins love to trade with the Panthers...

The Seidenberg deal worked out very nicely for them…..he just resigned.

And FLA got a second-rounder for (contractually) nothing. Win-win.

Horton + No33 for DAVID KREJCI + No15

The Bruins draft Seguin and give him a winger to pass to. The No33 can be added to No33 so they can move into the bottom of R1 for maybe a Defenseman like Petrovic

The Panthers get Krejci who can and has played with Frolik and more importantly Rotislav Olesz and might be able to get the most out of him.

More importantly with the No15 pick available, Tallon might feel he can spin the wheel and take a chance on Brett Connolly at No3 as he can pick up a very good defenseman at No15 including possibly Foubort, Merrill or Dylan McIlrath

you guys are insane if you think the Bruins are trading Krejci for anyone..

Hence the continued reappearance of Bergeron’s name.

That's a perfect scenario....

I like it……of all the options I’ve read…this one makes the most sense…..I’m not afraid of Connoly….he’s young…his injuries will heal….and I love what Dylan Mcllrath brings to the Panthers……Someone who would have put Mike Richards into the 3 rd. row of seats.

when should this deal get done?

Quickly....very Quickly.

If Krejci is the one that can help Olesz become the player he is capable of being……..We get Connolly……the forward we really need to put more points on the board and McIIrath …the mean nasty defenceman { like Gudbranson} that the Panthers are lacking ..and we keep TVO between the pipes .this is a WIN >>WIN>>>WIN>>>WIN>>>scenerio…..are you listening MR. TALLON…

by LAUSMAN on Jun 20, 2010 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions

While I like the scenario in general (Horton for Krejci and #15), it would still leave a lot of work for Tallon. If it’s true about Krejci and Olesz, then maybe Olesz-Krejci-Frolik wouldn’t be a bad second line. And I’d love to see them pick up Connoly.

The issue is this leaves our first line as Weiss and Booth and no one can be happy about that. If he’s keeping Weiss, then he has to build the second line around him and pick up a mostly new first if Horton’s going.

But I like where this is going. We can definitely make a trade with the Bruins that benefits both teams.

I like the Olesz component to your second line with Krejci. Last Chance saloon.

by Donny Rivette on Jun 20, 2010 9:01 PM EDT up reply actions

On any other team in the NHL, that’s a bad second line.

Olesz is a bust. It’s time to dump him or buy him out, or hope he has a fast start to the season and deal him quickly.

Buyout

According to CapGeek, here’s the cap-hit breakdown of an Olesz buyout if completed today (actual salary is another story):

2010-2011: $639,583
2011-2012: $339,583
2012-2013: $-260,417
2013-2014: $-510,417
2014-2015: $614,583
2015-2016: $614,583
2016-2017: $614,583
2017-2018: $614,583

(The negative numbers indicate a credit)

Contrast that with the estimated $6,952,600 he has collected via salary since 2005 (via the awesome HockeyZonePlus).

Yea it sucks...

Not worth it for them financially, but paying a guy $3.5 mil to play on the 3rd or 4th line isn’t awesome either.

Good thing I don’t have to make that decision!
