Around SBN: Ohio State And Florida Target 2013 Receiver Recruits

There aren't any further details available, but both Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger are reporting on Twitter that the Boston Bruins have acquired Nathan Horton in a trade with the Florida Panthers.

Holding off excitement for now, but it would be huge if Dale Tallon is able to move up to the number 2 pick in the draft..

Update from Bob McKenzie: Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell for Dennis Wideman and the 15th overall first round pick along with another draft pick tbd.

Cool

Props to Tallon. Build strength down the middle. Let’s hope it’s Krejci.

Wideman? Interesting… not a bad trade though. We are completely loaded on picks now.

I think Tallon could’ve done better, but I think he made a good deal. Two draft picks is still pretty good, and with the 15th overall pick, you guys might end up getting another 1st round steal like Kulikov

Thanks, just updated the post! Unfortunately I don’t have access to capgeek.com at work, anyone know how much money was just made available by trading Horton and Campbell for Wideman?

by keithwozniak on Jun 22, 2010 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions

$4 mil- $3.875 mil= $125 000 in savings cap space wise, 2010-11 salaries are the same so nothing changes there.

Oh, and the “another draft pick” is the Leafs’ 2nd rounder from the Kessel trade.

34) Florida

I wonder if this opens the door for Brett Connoly at #3.

by Ryan Meier on Jun 22, 2010 2:11 PM EDT reply actions

Dunno, if anything I think this ensures Fowler/Gudbranson with the 3rd, and using the 15th on a forward.

I see the opposite: I see him taking Connoly 3rd to replace Horton, and McIlrath around 15th.

Sucks, I was writing a piece on defensemen on the market, and was planning to include Wideman. Although since I never wrote anything about him, it saves me time.

I watched him last season, and he was the highest scorer for the Bruins this year in the post-season.

He had a shit regular season, nobody denies that. But then again if he keeps playing the way he did at the end of the regular season and during the playoffs florida’s going to be happy with him.

Yeah, I have. I go to all of the home games, I watch the other games on TV…he’s pretty good except for his occasional completely disastrous mistakes. It seemed like everything that could go wrong this year did, and I’m not sure if it’s bad luck or if he’s just bad. He picked it up in the playoffs just like Boychuk did after a mediocre regular season.

Could a deal have been done?

If Edmonton take Hall, will Boston consider a defenseman before a Center who they will have to play out of position, or not be able to utilise effectively because they’re burying him on the 4th line?

There’s little value in sending Seguin back to the OHL and he isn’t eligible for the AHL

by MagicDave on Jun 22, 2010 4:13 PM EDT reply actions

No, that’s stupid. You take the best player available, regardless of current needs or whatever it is that guides the NYJets in drafting.

You put Seguin on the wing or let him gain some more confidence in the OHL for another year.
