Reports: Panthers' Alexander Salak to Sweden

Multiple media reports out of Sweden are stating Panthers / Amerks goaltender Alexander Salak has signed to play with Farjestad, suiting up as early as next week. He has one year remaining on an initial two-year deal signed with Florida a year ago. The Panthers have not yet commented officially.

Widely believed to be a placeholder next season for future franchise goaltender Jacob Markstrom, this allows Salak an opportunity for growth away from a depth chart which includes a number of hungry young bodies scraping for ice time within the organization. Given this development, expect to see a Tyler Plante-Markstrom duo in Rochester to start the year.

More to come as this plays out...

UPDATE: Here's the official word from the top. It took four days to bang out a paragraph?

Most likely it’s a loan of sorts, but still looking for info.

I would rather Markstrom split with Plante than Salak

Plante had the better year after the rest of the AHL figured out Salak’s game.

oh…i thought salak was the better player. Either way, best to not have all three in the AHL

Brutally backed up in net:

Vokoun/Clemmer with Florida
Plante/Markstrom with Rochester
Cheverie/whomever Nashville sends to Cincinnati (which may or may not be the best situation for our guy)

Ideally I’d like to see Cheverie get a couple of games in ROC, but Plante is the “veteran” option as a mentor of sorts for Markstrom.

And as for Salak being “better” than Plante, he may well be, if you’re speaking of raw talent. Emphasis on “raw”.

Salak is.......

Phenominal…………………………and Crappy. It depends on what night you pick…….He’s very emotional…I like that . He’ll fight with anybody….a wild man ….an exciting Goalie to watch…….

Early on last season…..he was like 14 and 3….had the best stats in the AHL and looked untouchable. Then the s*#t hit the fan…….I can’t figure this guy out. Is he a Fantastic goalie or a Chris Beckford Tseu……
