Around SBN: Ohio State And Florida Target 2013 Receiver Recruits

From GR:

Some team officials have been wanting to change the current logo to the third jersey crest (at left) although owner Cliff Viner is opposed to it, with one staffer telling me he thinks it looks like it belongs to the FIU Panthers -- and doesn't look sharp enough to be a pro logo.

He has a great point.

While the third crest logo isn't going anywhere for now, word is the Panther with the breaking stick is the logo of the future. In some shape or form.

Much more from George above, along with some Whalers goodness. And yes, I've been following the stuff out of Hartford rather closely ;)

May I present a low-key, unbiased question for those fans who haven’t followed the club beyond the last decade: why is it so maniacally important to go red? Why is the change to blue or plaid or whatever so harmful?

by Donny Rivette on Aug 17, 2010 1:10 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

It’s not that it’s harmful in the purest sense. I just feel like it’s a continual ignorance of the preferences of the fans. Though I actually like the current 3rd jerseys I feel like they leave a lot to be desired. Taking red completely out of the color scheme really does seem like the team turning its back on a more successful era in the team’s history. I guess it’s the desire to look back balanced against the need to turn the corner and embrace the future.

I am also not enamored of the red jerseys of the 96 era though. I just feel like the current primary unis are a good amalgam of the past with a dash of more contemporary lines and materials, I would’ve liked to see a 3rd with red as the primary color. Frankly if you take the current 3rds and swap out the primary dark blue for red that’s a design that I would really enjoy.

red= blood but to be honest man you cant just take away a color that started with the organization since day one thats like taking black for the miami heat color scheme...

alot of people want to go back to a red jersey i can careless but as long as red is part of the uni its all good…take away red from the redwings or the habs or the caps it just means something anything else would be weird

The Habs, Caps, and Wings don't have ugly jerseys

The Panthers do. I love the blue jerseys and hope they become the new home jerseys.

I’ve never understood why we stopped wearing red to begin with, everyone loved the red jerseys.
Trying a new colour scheme is always interesting but the jerseys themselves are nothing special. Poorly designed from top to bottom regardless of the colour scheme.
And of all the new colours, why blue? We already have a blue jersey.

Having a red jersey is a painfully obvious choice, given our current home and road jerseys, the teams history, the desires of 99% of the fans and the simple aesthetic appeal its stupid that we have two blue jerseys and not a red one.

I wouldnt say that going blue is harmful, its just obviously inferior to going back to red.

Blue outsold the red? Just a guess. I bought a blue sweater the moment it was released back in 1998 or whatever. And I’ve never had a red. Nice jersey, just no inherent impetus to purchase one. I’m a fan either way.

The mighty Whale went from Kelly Green to (deep) Navy Blue in 92-93 simply because all sports teams were seeing an uptick in merchandise sales based upon “darkening” their unis. The Whale’s main color had forever been Kelly Green, but history be damned, it worked for the Raiders, Kings, North Stars, etc…Hartford sold a bundle of blues over the greens. Prolly different today due to nostalgia and the like, but still…Panthers will survive no matter what they wear. Look at Buffalo’s primaries…

Teams change logos, colors, jersey patterns all the time. And thank God for change, too…

But as far as Florida getting rid of the red or keeping the new FIU Panther logo or whatever, it’s a business. New jerseys mean fans will buy new jerseys. Or not. At least we’re not Oregon.

Sure, the color scheme stays similar, but… it’s not like we’re an original 6 team, or even a 70’s expansion team. The only reason I’d like to see the red come back is because we haven’t exactly had a lot of success since we left it. I think Bure wore the navy blue for a season, but…

Personally, I found this while googling and actually kind of like it a lot. Maybe tweak the font. I don’t know if this was a discarded mock up or where it came from, but I give it a thumbs up.

But in the end, if the bodies in the jerseys aren’t any good, I don’t think we’re gonna care how good they look.

(apologies for the huge pictures)

GREAT STUFF, Karl.

A+++.

And thanks for finding the photoshop uni. It’s all Minnesota but the concept is solid.

I’d rather have a Minnesota-jersey ripoff than a Penguins one.

This red one is sooooo much better than the actual 3rd.

Quite a while back someone somewhere did a photoshop of the home blue switched to primary red, and it was truly fantastic.
