Panthers sign forward Andrew Peters

Andrew Peters

#25 / New Jersey Devils

6-4

240

May 05, 1980

Sayeth overlord Tallon:

"With the addition of Andrew, we immediately add a physical presence to our line-up. He brings an aggressive style of play and a dimension that our team needed to address this offseason. We look forward to his contributions to our club."

He's not joking. On the other hand, Peters' offensive numbers are invisible; what makes this guy any different than Steve MacIntyre? Going further, will coach DeBoer - not one to breathlessly hand out minutes to tough guys - even play him?

Pros about Peters: He’s big and he seems like a nice guy.

Cons about Peters: He’s pretty much useless and he may forget to properly secure his jersey.

Hopefully he does Much better for you guys than what he did in Jersey last year.

He did something in New Jersey?

If you count playing horribly, then yes.

I'll second that

I thought he still played for the Sabres.

I have a feeling that coach DeBoer and GM Tallon will have or have had a little talk about the use of tough guys in the NHL.

That’s ridiculously awesome.

Interesting that Belak wouldn’t fight him.

Joke all you want..........

The Devil Players have a winning mindset…Just that alone is worth having him on the team….Bringing that winning mindset to the locker room is something that’s a Big plus…….And nobody will be laughing the first time Boothie DOESN’T get his head handed to him because Peters IS WATCHING……

by LAUSMAN on Aug 19, 2010 2:54 PM EDT reply actions

Yes

Guys like Wade Belak and Nick Tarnasky never got much play time from Peter DeBoer. Then how much of a future does DeBoer have in Florida?

Odds 3-1 in favor of DeBoer being fired before the 2011-12 unless Florida makes the playoffs.

by Bill Jempty on Aug 19, 2010 3:31 PM EDT reply actions

I’m sure the Panthers would’ve won tons of games if only they played Belak and Tarnasky more…

by Phalange on Aug 19, 2010 3:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Wouldn't have made any difference

I’m just saying DeBoer’s on a short leash right now and a new coach might give Peters more playing time than Wade and Nick.

by Bill Jempty on Aug 19, 2010 6:53 PM EDT up reply actions

So...

is Peters going to make the opening day lineup?

We have Booth, Higgins, Stillman and Olesz at LW, and Frolik, Grabner, Dvorak, Bitz, Bernier at RW…

by Colt1235 on Aug 19, 2010 7:50 PM EDT reply actions

Not. A. Chance.

Unless he’s the “last forward” on the bench, getting his requisite 1:36 of ice time. Who would you bump to get him into the top four at LW?

by Donny Rivette on Aug 19, 2010 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Well, Peters does have skill in beating up goalies.

And that’s a department the Panthers are now lacking in with the departure of Keith Ballard…

My god...

This is going to be a long season.

Not sure I understand this one… I mean yea, before signing him our “tough” guy is… ? I just don’t know where he fits in the lineup. This isn’t exactly a team that can afford to give a roster spot to a guy who has 7 points in 229 games. We don’t have a physical team, at least on paper, and I don’t see how one guy on the ice for 4 shifts a game will have other teams looking over their shoulder before going into the corners.

by Karl Selvig on Aug 19, 2010 9:36 PM EDT reply actions

It's all about protection......

Rochester has Jimmy Bonneau,,,,The Panthers HAVE to find a roster spot for an Enforcer…..period!

by LAUSMAN on Aug 19, 2010 9:48 PM EDT reply actions

I would agree if we actually could score…

by Colt1235 on Aug 19, 2010 10:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Really?

So he play 2 minutes a game?

by Phalange on Aug 20, 2010 10:09 AM EDT up reply actions

I guess no GM has ever watched Tarnasky because he actually could play the game.

If we wanted an enforcer who can do the basics at an NHL level it honestly doesn’t get much better than Tarnasky, who looked like he earned a lot more ice time than he got. Typical Deboer move though, not rewarded deserved players.

Stupid, stupid moves by everyone involved to let Tarnasky go and pick up this brick.

by pukeoncops on Aug 20, 2010 8:52 AM EDT reply actions

Tarnasky played so little, it’s no suprise no GM saw him.

What little he did play, he seemed like he had at least a little hockey skill. I’d rather have a Tarnasky on my team than a Macintyre or Peters.

by Phalange on Aug 20, 2010 10:12 AM EDT up reply actions

Very true. It looked like he had some speed also.

by Colt1235 on Aug 20, 2010 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions

Nasty was a middleweight….Peters is a heavyweight……They Will find a spot for him…otherwise they wouldn’t have picked him up. Where else is he going to go…..Not Racha cha.

by LAUSMAN on Aug 20, 2010 1:40 PM EDT reply actions

The spot they’ll find for Peters is in the pressbox, chowing down on some popcorn.

by Phalange on Aug 20, 2010 3:14 PM EDT up reply actions

No Sense

This move makes no sense. He’s not going to see more than 30 games if he’s lucky. We can’t afford a player like this especially if he’s only playing 2 minutes a night.

We should have kept Tarnasky. At least he had some talent, and I realizew he wasn’t aq heavyweight. but this guy is most likely the definition of lummox!

by The Rat Trick on Aug 20, 2010 3:31 PM EDT reply actions

If none of you Genius' can figure out why we got him....

Then maybe Tallon isn’t as smart as you all seem to think he is. There’s No room in the minors for him…..so I guess we’re gonna dump someone…………RUSTY?

by LAUSMAN on Aug 20, 2010 8:48 PM EDT reply actions

I don’t see it happening, signed too long for too much, most we would do is send him to the AHL and let Repik come up, but that’s a really big maybe.
