Blogger Credentials Debate
Looks like the debate about blogger credentials (or lack thereof) is heating up across the Hockey and Media worlds. Wyshynski at Puck Daddy has a good article on it. Seeing as how Litter Box Cats is in fact a blog I thought it would be appropriate.

Thanks JM, and congrats on the premier FanShot!
Yeah that’s been quite a story today – you can imagine the sheer volume of internal emails shooting back-and-forth among SBN editors all day.
Greg brings up a rather volatile subject in many bloggers’ minds: some are hellbent for “access”, others go could either way, and still others couldn’t give a hoot about getting in the door. We all of course desire acknowledgement, in that if we have a question for the team, they’ll – at the very least – respectfully respond.
It is a giant grey area though: who can be “trusted” to not abuse a press pass or credential, or intentionally or otherwise embarrass a team employee, and so forth. Some clubs have welcomed alternative media (WAS, NYI) while others remain skeptical or flat-out deny the existence of the medium altogether (EDM, among many more).
Another good follow-up here from James at PHT worth checking out.

Thanks!
Yeah, it has been a hot button topic since it hit the digital presses yesterday. Rival Caps Owned Ted Leonisis sounds off on his own blog. Good point that if Blogs reach so many people isn’t about time they start being treated as MSM? I understand some bloggers want to just rant and rave but there are some that like the access and have enough quality content and a wide enough following to warrant credentials.
Those teams you mentioned that deny the existence of the Blogosphere need to, as the great sage Dr. Phil put it, “Get Real” Even if your team doesn’t or didn’t do well blogs still create interest and maintain loyalty all of which lead to at least some business (whether from tv ratings, merchandise, tickets, etc.). Its bad business to ignore that medium.
Also, as a primarily a post lockout fan (i.e. that is when I really started paying attention beyond casually watching the North Stars back in the day and the Wild and playing Blades of Steel on my NES and NHL 94 on my cousin’s sega, that lucky jerk!), I really didn’t know much about the Whalers apart from Gordie Howe, some hokcey cards, and NHL 94. But I kept hearing about this “Brass Bonanza” song in all these Whalers reunion articles; so I looked it up and listened to it today while I got ready for work. I now feel like a more complete hockey fan. Figured you’d enjoy that as a Whalers guy, haha
BB was stuck in my head a good portion of the day, for some reason. Never leaves ya. I grew up on it.

In fact it was actually in the NHLPA ’93 or NHL ’94 soundtrack; remember being simply blown away the first time I heard it.
