Florida Panthers 2010 Training Camp: Day Two photo blow-out

Photo

A fantastic day in Coral Springs as the Cats put on a fine show for yet another standing-room only crowd at Saveology IcePlex. Certainly a grittier brand of hockey than I was personally expecting; the size quotient has been so ramped up that bodies were banging into each other more frequently than in many entire chunks of last season...a most welcome development. More unexpected goodness: Olesz appeared positively possessed.

Scoring - Team White (3): Higgins (two goals...or 25% of his production from all of last season), Grabner. Team Blue (2): Reinprecht, Frolik.

A couple of scary moments, led by Michael Frolik hitting the ice following a bizarre collision behind the goal; appeared as if his stick had become caught in the netting causing him to fall violently. Remained down for several minutes but regained his composure soon after and looked just fine throughout the game. Later, Dmitry Kulikov - now sporting #7 - evidently took a puck off a skate, forcing him to limp from the playing surface. More on him to come.

The pictures are presented in reverse order which be can entirely blamed on me. Another high-five to management for arranging an autograph session - immediately following a practice and scrimmage. A grand and unnecessary gesture which was mightily appreciated.

The roster can be found here for identification purposes; with all of the new names/faces/numbers you're probably going to need it a time or two. Without further ado, on to the pics...

Note to Channel 7, Pigs flying in Coral Springs...

In all seriousness, I’m too far away to go to the arena and see this, but Olesz lighting it up would be fantastic for this team. I’m as guilty as anyone for ragging on the guy, but he has mounds of pure talent – I’ve seen him pick Crosby’s pocket for god’s sake. If anyone on this roster was going to make a quantum-leap Rusty would be near the top of the list. He’s got the skills to become a significant offensive force, but he just has never put it all together. Now, he just needs to keep the pedal down because his disappearing act has been one of his biggest problems.

It’s obvious the fanbase hasn’t yet given up – a side effect of the contract? – and we’re all aware of what he can do. Totally up to him, but this is it…Last Chance Saloon. He knows it, and GMs around the league know it.

I agree totally. Rusty’s gotten an extra chance after the contract, but this will be the last one. If he doesn’t make serious leaps this year, he’ll be in the KHL next year.

I want so bad to see Rusty Olesz really turn it around this season and become the guy that we all know he can be. I am literally praying in church for him to turn it around.

Got a lot of support on that, JDM. He looked good today. Waiting to see what he can do when throwing the body around is encouraged.

You are who you are...

Rusty …..I hope you read this………Why should you be a DIFFERENT player this year…..You will never live up to your potential….why…..because you haven’t! That’s just the way it is and it’s a shame for you and the Panthers Organization…..Sorry folks…..That’s just the way it works….I hope…I hope…. doesn’t make it. he just doesn’t have it in him…..if he did , he would have shown it….he’s had many seasons to do that…..he’s a classic Flop…..I’m sorry to say…..we all KNOW this but we always say I hope….I hope…..it ain’t goin’ to happen….

Well you’re in luck, it’s a well-known fact that Rusty Olesz consistently roams internet message boards in an attempt to learn what fans think of him.

Double LOL.

If he spent five seconds at the HF Boards he’d already be selling life insurance.

It's not what I think of him.....

It’s what it is! I hope he does read it.Wake up and smell the roses.

Evidently he just scored a penalty shot goal on Markstrom via – according to Fialkov – “his usual backhand move”. So now Markie’s got the book on him.

Wake up and smell the roses.

I think you’re suffering from idiom dyslexia here.

Anyways, you’re stating your opinion as fact. There’s no tangible evidence that Olesz CAN’T turn his career around. It may not be a likely outcome, but it can happen.

Book? You mean pamphlet.
