Evgeny Dadonov Assigned to San Antonio

Yet another casualty of the Florida Panthers remarkable organizational depth, Evgeny Dadonov (who saw no action in either of the first two games) was assigned to the Rampage earlier today. Unfortunately for the promising winger, it seems this move was creeping up in the rear view ever since training camp where we rarely heard any mention of him. If Dadonov was to secure his spot, it meant someone else had to lose theirs; that someone just played two remarkable games and recorded an assist. Yes, Jack Skille essentially pushed Dadonov back to the AHL.

Just think about this, Evgeny Dadonov -- one of the Panthers most talented wingers the organization has produced in a while -- would have never been sent down last season. His pure skill and scoring prowess was one of the few bright spots last year, but the summer roster overhaul brought in enough guys with the same characteristics to make Dadonov expendable. If that is any kind of indication of the potential skill on the current roster, I don't know what is.

In the end, Dadonov is better off getting playing time in the AHL than waiting for someone to get injured. Don't get too worked up over this move, we will likely see Dadonov again in the near future when injuries do occur.

On a related note, Anthony Luciani and Keith Seabrook were assigned to the Cincinnati Cyclones.

Glad to see Evgeny going down to get some ice time. He’ll be back soon enough!

I like this move, we need to get our prospects all the TIO they can get. Sitting in the press box isn’t doing this kid any good up here.

I can’t help but feel another little tinge of optimism here, the fact that we can afford to spend more time getting these kids to develop a huge change from recent memory.

He’s definitely one of my favorite players. I hope this move will get the fire ignited in him.

A lil thunder and a lil lightning is what the Cats are going to bring this year.

Yeah, probably get Skille in there. Or Matty, did he do one last year?

I can foresee Dandy being future trade bait, as well as Repik, especially if they light up the net with San Antonio. I don’t see them having a future with the Cats with the prospects the Panthers currently have, with the recent signings. There’s just too much depth in the organization presently, especially if guys like Skille and Bergenheim perform above what their careers have shown so far.

He’s also a great motivational tool for the underachievers that may surface, as they know their roster spot can be easily filled by an eager rookie.

Would rather have seen Dadonov with the big club and Skille somewhere else. Dont get me wrong I like Jack but I think for every positive Skille is showing right now Dadonov would be doing the same plus some. 2 decent games is not enough for me to justify having one of your few performers last season go down the the AHL.

They take practice into account as well. If he’s not outperforming the guys in practice and they’re playing well enough in games, then it makes sense for him to get ice time somewhere.

Also could mean they’re thinking about playing 7 D like they said they might and don’t want two forwards in the press box.

Dale's Team

He will shape it as he so pleases. Obviously he’s giving the older and more seasoned Skille the benefit of the doubt at the moment. Plus the role of a checking line banger does not suit Dado very well.

personally I think Dadonov should be in the Panthers lineup but it doesn’t benefit him to be sitting. Light it up in SA and he’ll be back soon enough. just by law of averages some of these free agent signings aren’t going to work out and a spot will open up for him if he earns it in the minors.
