Video: Sights and Sounds from Florida Panthers Home Opener

Of course we'll lead off with the well-played but not soon-to-get-old Erik Gudbranson vs Steve Downie fracas. Most memorable portion? The blink-and-you-missed-it "flinch" move, which ascended to South Florida Legend status, just like that. An instantaneous "I was in the building when..." moment. Video courtesy of HockeyFights.com

Can’t forget our new goal song! I honestly didn’t notice it while at the game but checked it out when I got home and it’s kind of catchy.. Definitely has the whole “Chelsea Dagger” catchyness to it, I guess to try to get the crowd into it.

That’s exactly what I was thinking when I first heard it. It’s so catchy, I have actually been playing that song in a loop for the whole day. Addiction, it is. Hopefully the crowd will catch on to it and not think that it’s too fast to think. Our version of Chelsea Dagger!

Love the new goal song. It’s got exactly the kind of feeling to it that you want, it is catchy and it’s going to get the crowd pumped in a big way when we’re at home.

Hockey is a business, only we fans love it as a game.

Not bad.

I’m putting here for reflection later on in the season…. #14 Tomas [Fleischmann] is getting a 40G season. FLASH COUNT: 1G/1A

HOLY CRAP

I just got some major chills watching the team celebrate the win with Theo after he made that save and watching them salute the crowd. Massive goosebumps.

It was indeed a chilling moment – the good kind :)

But at least I’ll be ordering my new jersey soon and then sporting it December 8th when the Cats take on the Bruins in Boston!!! :DD

I’ll be “that guy” — the away fan at the home arena. Ha!

Please...

speak for yourself. ;-)

Great game, tons of fun! I’d only have to change one thing to make it the perfect weekend…and one change away from perfection is not too shabby at all!!!

Great crowd in the suite, friendly peeps on this board. Be sure to let me know if you do it again!

Can’t wait to see the Kittens again when open up the doors on the forum Monday night for what should be a great grudge match!

and a random not so silent one :-) Jose Shut Theodore!!
I especially liked his little hand dismiss of Stamkos pretty play in the shoot out.

I hereby predict Captain Mike Weaver #43 will score 6G 20A -RCR 0G1A update!

if you watch the replay again after the hand wave at stamkos he stands in his crease shaking his head as if to say “Cant believe that kid thought I’d fall for that S***”

Wait...

that My Chemical Romance song is the new goal song? Really? Oh well. Maybe it’s one of those things you dont really notice when you’re there…

Anyways, great game last night, although admittedly I was watching with half an eye with the other trained on my Gators embarassing themselves. But it’s nice to see a shootout finally go our way. Can’t wait for these next two games, should get a good barometer of where we are in the early going. Does WAS play Vokoun? In a weird way, I really hope he plays. You know there are some of our guys who have probably shot thousands of pucks at him in practice… they’ll know where to go (and I don’t mean shooting from behind the goal line, although that’s been a pretty good strategy against TVo too)

The Panthers game experience video is awesome. The salute to the crowd was just as awesome then as it was at the game. Chills I tell ya!

I love how they call the t-shirt throwers and the tv timeout entertainment groups the rat pack. They need to bring back the rat

by thebiz34 on Oct 16, 2011 8:46 PM EDT reply actions

Rats were thrown on the ice when they won. Can’t do it during the games anymore.

Yes I know but...

Whats to stop it from happening after a hat trick eh?? Kind of a grey area in my opinion lol…I’m not suggesting it. I Just think thats some grey area that madmen like me might take advantage of. Maybe the rule should be ammended so we can throw rats, detroit can throw squid, and toronto can throw waffles, after hat tricks, victories, and piss poor performances of course…I think its a bad idea now that I think about it, our fans would get confused and just start throwing after every single goal…and am I the only one who just sort of laughed at our intro. And I thought Stanley was going to do something really crazy when he said he took out a giant insurance policy… At least come in on an angle and skate onto the ice…Does Stanley even skate anymore? Either way the game itself was good.

I didn’t mean throw rats after poor performances, just waffles. But leave that to Toronto

RATS:

The revival of the tradition is in its infancy. Several of us have tried to keep it going for years, but it’s tough when the team is doing so poorly. But we seem to be turning the corner. The quickest way to screw up the reintroduction is to start throwing them any time other than AFTER the game is over and the Panthers have won. It’s pretty simple.

If they start showing up after goals, the Panthers will be penalized and they will begin confiscating them at the door. A very good thing will be gone before we’ve even had a chance to watch it bloom. The players had fun with it, the crowd had fun with it, and so did the TV guys. It’ll be a lot more fun when our team is in contention in April and the ice is black with rats after a win…

Let’s just keep it simple. Throw them when the game is over. Once the tradition has come back, hat tricks will be a natural evolution.

By the way… NOW is the perfect time to be out scouring stores for rats… Halloween will have come and gone soon, and you won’t be able to find them until next year!
