Tallon, Inc. wasn't kidding about that summer overhaul thing
The Cats played their final game of the 2010-11 season on April 9th - can it really have been six months? - in what ultimately emerged as an offensively-challenged but Who-Cares-It's-The-Playoff-Bound-Caps 1-0 Florida victory at the BankAtlantic Center. Featuring the typical elan of this matchup's Alex Ovechkins and David Booths there's curiously little to read into on the scoresheet as even the penalty count (3 total) describes a sleepwalking affair.
What is anything but a snooze is taking a peek at who was in uniform for the Panthers that evening; more accurately, who among that group won't be wearing the now gold-piping-free road whites on Saturday from Uniondale, New York. Of the 19 players on Florida's season finale roster, a wild and wacky ten have moved on; several within the organization:
- W Niclas Bergfors - Predators
- D Joe Callahan - UFA
- W Tim Kennedy - San Antonio Rampage (AHL)
- C Marty Reasoner - Islanders
- W Michal Repik - San Antonio Rampage (AHL)
- W Patrick Rissmiller - Avalanche
- W Sergei Samsonov - UFA
- W Bill Thomas - San Antonio Rampage (AHL)
- G Tomas Vokoun - Capitals
- D Clay Wilson - Flames
Sheesh. For comparative purposes here is the current roster - which looks a bit more intimidating on paper - as of 10/02/11.

Ok… So Reinprecht shouldn’t be on the roster, right? He cleared waivers so isn’t he technically in San Antonio right now?
Also, Santorelli and Clemmenson are on the IR right now with their injuries so they won’t be included on the opening night lineup either. With all of them included, we have 16 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 3 goalies on the roster.
Take those injured one’s and stuff out…. we have 14 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 2 goalies. That would mean we need to cut/send down 2 forwards and one defenseman, right? …. And they’ve got 6 days to do it.
Plus, Huberdeau must be signed by 5pm Tuesday to qualify for those vaunted 9 games…

No. Reinprecht cleared waivers, but was not re-assigned. The Panthers have until 10 games played/30 days, whichever comes first, to reassign him before he had to clear waivers again. Right now they’re trying to trade him, but he’s still practicing with the team. They’ve even hinted he might play a few games. If they can’t find an NHL team to take him before the 30 days, then we’ll probably see him assigned to SA or loaned to a European team, but in the meantime he’s on the roster. They may keep 23 instead of 22 with him on, though.

No. Teams dress 20 players for a game, but usually carry 23 on a roster. That usually breaks down to 14 forwards, 7 defensemen, and two goalies. Sometimes teams go with 13 and 8, or even in a rare situation like on the Island, 13-7 and 3 goalies. Panthers might stick with the 13-8 breakdown for Gudbranson’s nine game audition and carry 22 after (if they send him to juniors) until Santorelli returns.
changed mind
I thought huby should be sent to juniors, but after his performance this preseason, keep him. This team needs more scoring especially with three peat theodore in net. Sign and let huby play for the entire season. If Tallon says he needs to gain weight I’m sure Huby could gain weight by going to cheeburger cheeseburger and eating a pound burger.
What players left in the offseason were all adequately replaced. Except vokoun, I hope that they let markstrom play a bit if Three peat Theodore stinks up the net. No offense to vokey, but I hope neuvirth takes his job back.
