I’m still in a bit of shock about the booth trade. I would have thought we could have gotten something better for him and definietly younger. I am hopeful that tallon has something else in the works for us! I wish booth nothing but the best and I will be cheering him on except for when he plays us here on Jan 9th…now he is reunited with some of the other ex panthers that have relocated to vancouver

I like this trade, I didn’t see Booth finishing his contract in Florida and Reinprecht was to expensive to hide in the AHL. Samuelsson, like Booth, is a former 30 goal scorer and has been excellent on the powerplay with Vancouver. Marco Sturm is a pretty good player, when he gets enough ice time, which he’ll get in Florida, and is a former teammate of Matt Bradley and Marcel Goc (before he was traded for Joe Thornton). Also both players contracts end after the season, which gives room for Howden and Huberdeau.

by Alexander Calloway on Oct 23, 2011 12:16 PM EDT reply actions

decent trade for the short term and long term. Booth was simply not performing up to his contract and you have to think any pre Tallon players have a bit of a target on their back when it comes to setting an example. The players coming should help solidify the lineup as far as this year’s goal of making the playoffs. The savings on Booth could be used to bolster the offense next offseason.

Anyway, this road trip will be the measuring stick

We’ve proven we can beat Isles, Lighting. Now can we beat any other teams? Also Guds hasn’t impressed yet this season. Weak Link.

Not really, the AHL would be the best, but that can’t happen. It’s best he gets a full season in the NHL to adjust to the level of play and get his bumps and bruises rather than flat out dominate the OHL, again.

Nothing to be gained in OHL at this stage.

So with the addition of these two players, Santorelli most likely coming back Monday night against montreal, who goes down? Kearns, Kennedy…what about when Bergenheim comes back, carter?

Dara

by gravenger5 on Oct 23, 2011 1:09 PM EDT reply actions

I say Ryan Carter should be sent down, Bracken Kearns has been alright and Tim Kennedy shown he can play better than Carter in the NHL.

by Alexander Calloway on Oct 23, 2011 1:15 PM EDT up reply actions

I was told a week ago that when Santorelli came back that Carter would be sent down. Obviously no one saw Bergerheim getting injured or Booth getting traded. But Carter has been up just to plug a hole thus ph.d. not part of the long term future.

Kearns could sit in the press box and be the 13th forward. Not like he needs development, and I don’t think he’ll mind cashing a NHL check.

Though I am still shocked about the Booth trade, it brings the ability of overpaying for a goal scorer we haven’t had since Bure. Both Parise(who if we are going to over spend for a goal scorer I prefer) and Semin scheduled free agents next off season. It also gives us the ability to give young players a shot at the NHL. I will miss Booth as he was home grown talent but it was a big risk hoping he would bounce back from his concussions at 4.25 a year for 3yrs while there will be better proven goal scoring talent available this summer.

i was cheering when i heard booth was traded. don’t get me wrong, he has played hard for us and is a great person, but he doesn’t fit our team’s playing style. im happy with the return, and am stoked to be moving forward.

the guys played last night like they were afraid of being traded, dale knew what he was doing. im wicked stoked.

So I’m finally going to say it… I know Booth was a fan favorite and to those of you who loved him and felt broken up over this trade etc then I’m sorry for your loss.. but I was never a huge fan of Booth, and thats not saying I didnt like him because Ive cheered for him Ive gotten excited when he’s made a good play He just wasn’t the guy I always singled out as a favorite… and with that I look at the trade as a big step for us, short term we could gain some good offensive numbers as well as even more help on the PK and more leadership.. if it doesnt work out theyre shipped at the deadline for picks or let go in free agency to make room for Huberdeau, something that couldnt have been done with Booths 3 yrs remaining.. Long term sure we lose a young player in his “prime” but how can anyone possibly know how that will work out.. sure he could play next to the sedins or kesler and score 40 and if he does then great, if he doesnt I wont be surprised

People can criticize the move all they want but for those of you who looked past the trade and noticed the game last night youll notice the panthers had a jump in their step, and sure you can say thats because it was “Just the islanders” but that’s not the case, Florida has ragdolled washington and buffalo before and the past two games were embarassing.. This move was to shake the roster up and send a message, knock the sh** off or be gone, and so far I think it’s worked

If you can’t handle trades then don’t pick a favorite player.. and that’s not me trying to be mean, its just the truth.. It sucks Booth’s gone but it’s part of the business

by Rob PKane McMahon on Oct 23, 2011 3:30 PM EDT reply actions

Well said.............

I was a Booth fan as I am a fan of anyone who dons the Panthers Jersey. That being said, as bad as our teams have been ANYTHING resebling a hockey player with talent has been over valued by us. Olesz and Booth are two prime examples. Their contracts far exceed their production, Olesz never panned out and Booth unfortunately got cheap shotted by Richards and has not been the same player since. I hate to see him go, and wish him nothing but success the rest of the season other than on Jan 9.

by catfan927 on Oct 24, 2011 1:00 AM EDT up reply actions

The only thing I disagree on is that Booth’s contract was awarded to him after breaking 30+ goals. Olesz was NO WHERE near close to that, when he was awarded his crazy contract. Booth’s contract was more warranted, at the time. It is unfortunate for Booth that he got that concussion, in which he might never do that again.

Florida will outscore the Dolphins tomorrow night though 16 goals against Montreal would be nice.

by Bill Jempty on Oct 23, 2011 3:35 PM EDT reply actions

Ummmm considering that points in football doesn’t equate to the number of touchdowns/field goals, etc., it is QUITE possible for the Cats to “outscore” the Dolphins.

by CLG_74 on Oct 23, 2011 4:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Take this with a grain of salt...

I heard from the grapevine from someone close to Goldstein that Viner was upset we were 6 million over budget, hence the trade.

If the rumors about the deal being worked for about six months now are true, then this doesn’t add up.

I doubt thats true because the ownership is smart enough to not dictate what tallon does… and tallon has too much pride in what he does to allow the ownership to tell him to make a deal so they can save money

by Rob PKane McMahon on Oct 23, 2011 4:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Not sure if I believe this. I met Mr.Viner during Thursday nights game. He seemed very humbled and said he is trying his hardest. I think if he were mad about going over the budget, he wouldn’t have allowed Dale to sign some of the high $ that he did or keep with this marketing campaign.

A lil thunder and a lil lightning is what the Cats are going to bring this year.

by trinidaddy on Oct 23, 2011 4:15 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Why not? He may have given Tallon the go ahead to sign people, but not necessarily to the dollar figure he signed them at. It happened to Keenan when he signed Nieuwendyk and Roberts, and afterwards all roster moves had to be approved by Martin and Cohen before being made.

Slow motion?

you mean when he used his speed to blow past the defense last night which resulted in a penalty shot?

or did you mean the fact that he had been the only player noticeable on the second line because Booth and Upshall have been nonexistant?

I’m curious to see what he will do with a different linemate. I couldn’t watch last night’s game so I don’t know how well he played for his first game without Booth. From what I have seen, he hasn’t been so hot. I’d like to see him start to heat up now that Booth is gone.

Preds guy here

Wanted to know what the overall consensus of Goc is. I know it is early, but I loved him in Nashville and thought our GM made a mistake by not locking him up. Guy could play any role when he was with us. Does the Booth trade make him a lock for top 6 or 9 minutes? (Yeah I realize that Booth and Samuelsson are both RW while Goc is a C). Is he getting any PP time?

Anyway slow day so I thought I would drop by.

by wrandsw on Oct 23, 2011 5:21 PM EDT reply actions

He’s been alright. Dineen, the head coach, has him averaging about 16 and half minutes a night. He’s looking to be same player he was in Nashville, and I think he’ll stay on the third line for now. Plus he looks like Dracula.

Goc looking like Dracula, I mean … :)

by OldDave on Oct 23, 2011 7:09 PM EDT up reply actions

What will really determine the line Goc plays on will be the play of Mike Santorelli. He was the second line center last year and one of the top scorers for the Panthers. I’m going to guess that the second line in a few games will be something like Samuelsson-Santorelli-Upshall and if they click, then Goc will probably stay on the third line. However, he’s playing special teams so he’s still getting a lot of minutes. Plus Dineen is rolling four lines a lot, so the bottom line guys are getting time.

I like Goc. I liked him in San Jose way back. Good, solid player. He certainly wasn’t the biggest name we picked up over the summer, but I was happy to see him sign here.

I am loving Markstrom starting this game as I feel he has nothing left to prove in the minors. I don’t feel he should just be handed the number 1 job but if he were to play 20- 30 of the games this year against NHL talent it would give us a more fair assessment of whether he is ready to handle the load. If he continues to play the way he has in the limited sample size then there is a bright future in net for us.
