Florida Panthers Prospect Roundup: November 11, 2011
Happy Friday everyone, and happy Veterans and Remembrance Day. In this weeks roundup, the Rampage hope Jacob Markström's hot NHL start will lead to consistent goaltending, Adam Comrie gets put on $100 waivers, and Rocco Grimaldi finally scores a goal. All this and more after the jump.
4-7-0, 8 Points, 5th Place West Division (1-2-0 during the week)
Goals for 25, Goals Against 38
San Antonio played three games during the week, using three different goaltenders. Scott Clemmensen started game one against Toronto on conditioning. Clemmensen was able to hold a 6-0 shutout until a Toronto goal was scored with just 13 seconds left. Evgeny Dadonov won first star honors with two goals, his second and third in the AHL. Scott Clemmensen won second star with 31 saves and 59 minutes of shutout hockey. And Keith Seabrook won third star honors, after being called up, with two assists. Fun fact, both Toronto teams were outscored 15-1.
The offense didn't transfer over to the two next games, however, as the Rampage lost to interstate rivals Texas Stars, 4-0. Brian Foster was in net for the whole game, allowing all four goals off 33 shots. Jacob Markstrom made his San Antonio debut on Thursday, but he couldn't help the Rampage change their losing ways with a 5-2 loss. Colby Robak and Angelo Esposito were the only goal scorers, with Markstrom making 24 saves, allowing only four.

The Cincinnati Cyclones played two games against the Chicago Express, losing both in the shootout. The first game was a 4-3 loss, which Anthony Luciani scored twice in, with Jonathan Hazen assisting his second goal. The Express scored three unanswered goals in the second and third periods, to tie it and send it to the shootout, where Tyler Plante stopped all but two shooters. The second game was a 3-2 loss, with Tyler Plante again in net. The Cyclones, down 2-1 in the third with five minutes left, were able to tie the game up and again lose it in the shootout.
The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees won their third game a row, with a 6-3 win over the Tulsa Oilers. They failed to get their fourth consecutive win against the Allen Americans, losing 3-1.

FWIW, team management has said nothing, but Adam Comrie is no longer on the Cyclones roster. The ECHL listed him as “recalled by Florida Panthers” in their weekly transaction report.

He’s off the Panthers’ prospect list as well.

Wait… They finally updated their prospect list?
I think they quietly released him. The only thing I could find apart from the ECHL transaction list was some online community he’s on, where he’s posted about training camp and stuff. His profile now says something to the effect of “Another washed up hockey player with bad knees.” So, I’m purely speculating here, but maybe he’s had a chronic problem and decided it wasn’t worth it anymore.

No one is beating him up, regardless of the lack of information regarding his apparent release :) My best wishes to him going forward.

Team needs another good draft with more picks
All I keep thinking when I see the prospects, there still are not enough for filling holes in the NHL line up in the “near” future. Too many kids are 2-3 years away, we can thank the Keenan years and JM years for that. Tallon is going to need to some more picks or will need to pick more prospects for the AHL. I think Tallon has gone a long way at fixing the prospect pull, but still more work to be done.
I agree with this. A simple way of avoidin the draft is, signing a lot of undrafted kids out of college. Panthers have a lot of depth in prospects, but not a lot of true top level prospects.
