Florida Panthers recall Evgeny Dadonov from San Antonio

Photo

The Florida Panthers have called up Evgeny Dadonov from the San Antonio Rampage. Dadonov is tied for fifth on the Rampage's roster for points with four (tied with Angelo Esposito and Mike Kostka), as well tied for second in goals with three (with Colby Robak). Coming into the season, Dadonov was ranked 7th in my list of the top 20 Florida Panthers Prospects heading into 2011-12.

Star-divide

Evgeny Dadonov meteoric rise to being a part of the Panthers future continues after an impressive season with the Florida Panthers. Averaging 14 minutes on the ice, Dadonov scored 17 points (8G/9A) in 36 games, being one of the productive players on the post-deadline Panthers roster. Don't pencil him on the roster yet, Dadonov will have fight for a spot with the many forwards brought in by Tallon during the season. While making the NHL roster would be great, another season in the AHL wouldn't hurt, as his defensive game does need some work. The short, yet physical winger has NHL talent and can be a top-six forward when he cements a permanent spot in the NHL. - Crooklyn Banks

Yeah! I thought that Dadonov could have made the team any other yearm(not this year, with the depth in forward). I hope he plays well and gets a couple NHL games in.

He did make the team, though.

Dadonov is such a ninja.

I’m putting here for reflection later on in the season…. #14 Tomas [Fleischmann] is getting a 40G season. FLASH COUNT: 5G/9A

Skills

Can you guys explain where Dadonov’s skills have been this year? He has 1, count ’em 1, decent game this year, out of the 9 he has played…Am I missing something?

You could say the same for the entire Rampage roster.

Agreed…It’s absolutely embarrassing

Dadonov is just one of those players (along with Markstrom as it’s looking right now) that performs better in the NHL than in the AHL. Last year he had a great 1st year for us.

absolutely, hard to play super well when everyone else around you is absolutely not up to your par.

Panthers have a problem with this in the minors for the last decade, going back to Shvidki. Players shouldn’t be playing down to the talent they’re surrounded by. They should be elevating the talent around them.

Could you say the same about Tim kennedy? He seems to have the skills, just maybe not the drive…

by rampagerowdie on Nov 12, 2011 5:02 PM EST up reply actions

Yea the same with him. He scored a nice goal from us a few weeks back and is only in SA because of the players that we have now compared to other years. Same case with Dadonov and somewhat Markstrom.

When you’re bread and butter is your skill, you need to have guys around you who can help put you in better position to use your skill, which is why Dads is a better NHL than AHL player (also like I said with Marky in a previous post a couple days ago, so I agree with FLP360 on that for sure).

He can’t use skill alone to take on a team, but when he can use his skill to finish a play or to make one smart move, he can rack up way more points… This is also why if he never translates to the top-6 winger he’s projected to be, he’ll spend his career in the minors because he’s more of an asset to an organization playing top minutes there than bottom-6 minutes in the NHL (even if he may be more “skilled” than some NHL 4th liners).

by lipsonjeff on Nov 12, 2011 5:17 PM EST up reply actions

I can see what you’re saying. I know his numbers look bad, but without Marky in net, the last 2 games would have 7-1 instead of 4-2 and 4-1. He has been the victim of TERRIBLE defensive play and inconsistent offensive play.

I had a feeling that might be the case. The Panthers need to do something about the defense in SA.

We know the sites that stream NHL hockey, but does anyone know of any sites that stream AHL hockey so we can watch Rampage games??

Rampage games are rarely streamed. Usually, they’re out of town and the local team needs to be wanting to broadcast them.

If I find any, I’ll let you know.

No one tearing it up in SA. I see this as Dady’s turn. TK had his chance and probably Repik will be the next one.
And sorry I just don’t buy guys are better suited for the NHL than AHL. These guys are professionals. If you can’t dominate at the lower level why would or should mgmt call you up?
Might also explain why Bracken Kearns had the first turn.

I thought it might have been Repik coming up since he has put up better numbers.
Dadonov is the better player imo so I’d rather see him get the chance but are the Panthers rewarding guys that are playing hard like Kearns or calling up guys who are a fit based on a particular injury?

As for being “better suited” I agree, that’s a bunch of crap but there are players who play better in than NHL than AHL. I think it’s mostly mental, less to due with skills or linemates. I think some players who think they deserve to be in the NHL pout when they get sent down and it affects their play plain and simple. Any skilled player who gets sent down should be able to showcase his talent despite his surroundings.

+1

exactly Todd! If it affects their play when they are sent down what message does it send to Dale and Mike about their character? I mean if they can’t demonstrate the desire and will required to make it in the best league in the world, does it not call into question the same desire and will that would be needed to finish a play that could ultimately win us an important regular season or playoff game?
