2 points up on the Division, just need to keep it up. Love to see us stay there for a bit (and wrap up the season sitting in that rarefied air).

Seeing Red since 1994.

Normalized stats are more valuable than absolute stats mid-season, here's a few of note for the whole team:

point percentage: 6th in conference, 10th in league
goals/game: 7th in conference, 9th in league
goals against/game: 5th in conference, 9th in league
shots/game: 6th in conference, 12th in league
shots against/game: 15th in conference, 27th in league

The cat’s success so far is no fluke, weighted pretty heavily on Theodore/Markstrom/Clemmensen though.

Ive been a DIE HARD panther fan since day 1. I live in Victoria B.C. just across from Vancouver. Ive never met another panther fan in my city. I’m made fun of all the time! haha! I’ve been reading and following for years, and never felt inclined to post anything. All I have to say is that it feels GREAT to rub in the fact that we are ahead of the Canucks, Canadiens and Leafs in the standings. Finally something to be proud of with my Cats!

Welcome, thanks for the support. Want to know how someone in Victoria becomes a Panthers fan.

Simple

That have or wish they were the owner of a Jacques Martin voodoo doll and or

they think Michael Yormark is one of the dumbest people in sports today.

Say good riddance to Jay Bouwmeester at least once a day as he continues to underperform in Calgary.

Being a masochist helps too.

by Bill Jempty on Nov 20, 2011 7:21 PM EST up reply actions

You can, of course, disagree with Yormark’s business practices all day long but is calling him “dumb” an argument that can be defended with facts?

I agree. I know I am biased towards Yormark because of what he had done for the charity and some of the perks that my family and I have benefited from his generosity. However, he has kept the Panthers from relocating if you look at it. Yes everything is sponsored, yes we have not made the post season since ‘00 but its not as if he is trying to intentionally ruin the franchise. Remember, he has allowed GMs to bring in free agents that haven’t worked out. he has given the GM’s the opportunity to spend up to the cap limit, its not his fault that they did it foolishly. He is also responsible for changing the culture of this team starting with bringing Tallon in. He makes his decisions with the clubs best interest at heart but he also has to ensure we turn a profit. If people are not going out to games, he has to generate revenue to somehow. People shouldn’t complain until we fill our barn every night with panther fans, not opposing fans. It’s his efforts that kept the Panthers here and had another Atlanta franchise relocate.

Yormark hired Tallon?

by OldDave on Nov 20, 2011 8:48 PM EST up reply actions

Seeing as MY is the pinnacle of All Things Panthers, it likely couldn’t have happened without his OK. Torrey may have Viner’s ear, but Yormark remains the prez…

Perhaps I should have asked “Yormark selected Tallon”?

by OldDave on Nov 20, 2011 9:10 PM EST up reply actions

He may not have selected him per say but it it’s no different than any other company. He has people below him to bring him information, in this case Torre, and he makes the decision from there. He may not have a hockey background but Andrew Carnegie once said I am smart enough to surround myself by people who are smarter than me.

Yeah, he is the president of all decisions for SSE. He is in charge of all hockey decisions which includes hiring the GM. He also is in charge of hiring coaches and determining the budget which you need money in order to spend for free agents. He is not just on the financial side. Honestly he is a good guy.

He also gets a lot of crap for things not entirely his fault

I’m putting here for reflection later on in the season…. #14 Tomas [Fleischmann] is getting a 40G season. FLASH COUNT: 8G/11A

If you have ever been to a town hall meeting, most of the time it is not Torre who is answering questions along with Viner, it’s Yormark. He is in charge of the whole project

Torre is or was a baseball coach. Torrey is a hockey man. Made a name for himself with the Islanders and has had a ceremonial role with the Panthers for the last decade. We call it paid retirement where I work, where people show up to a job and get paid to do nothing.

Forgive my phone for it’s spell check. Being a Red Sox fan I certainly wouldn’t not intentionally confuse the two.

I’m so happy I don’t own a smart phone. Maybe cause I’m afraid it’ll think its smarter than me. :P

Unfortunately I went from a phone with a key board to one without. I use Swype which had auto correct built in and sometimes even when I type the word out it will change it. It’s quite annoying. There was no new phone with a key board sigh

Got your Newfoundland Panthers fan right here, unless by some strange miracle there are more than me. You’d have to think that out of 510,000 people there’d be more than one fan, but I have yet to meet one. Like PC above my choice of hockey team has certainly brought me much ridicule, and forced me to have to defend my choice time and time again, from people who ask: “So, you a Leafs or Habs fan?” Response: “No, a Panthers fan”. Dumbfounded look appears, along with slight pity and condesencion: “Why??”

I used to be a Bruins fan along with my dad. When i was 14 i had surgery and in hospital for a couple months. That was in 93-94. Their merchandise at that time was plastered all over the stores. My dad bought me a jersey, hat and banner when i left the hospital and ever since i’ve been a fan. Kinda a sob story, but i’m happy I stuck with the team. Exciting times!

by Pussy Cats on Nov 20, 2011 5:55 PM EST reply actions

Exciting indeed. I think we’re all a bit numbed by the recent success, without getting ahead of ourselves (which could be rather easy right now).
