The Panthers' annual California trip is this week, featuring games against the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks. The teams don't meet very often, but there will be a couple of familiar faces on the ice for the Kings: former Flyers Mike Richards and Simon Gagne. Both are well known to Panthers fans. Richards, of course, put the hit on David Booth a few seasons ago that sidelined him for much of the season. Gagne spent last season in the Southeast Division after the Flyers traded him to the Lightning. The Kings are in the middle of their division, sitting one-point under the Stars and one above the Sharks and are eighth in the Western Conference.

News and Notes
Last meeting
The Kings beat the Panthers 3-2 at home a year ago; one of at least 150 1-goal games that the Panthers lost last season. Anze Kopitar scored the game winner while Jonathan Quick took the victory.
Last game
The Panthers spoiled the debut of new Carolina Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller by beating the Canes 3-1 in Raleigh. Shawn Matthias had two goals late in the third period, including both the game winner and an empty net goal.
Lineup
The injuries are mounting in Florida. Dimitry Kulikov was injured when he took a puck off his foot in Carolina. He is expected to be out for a few weeks, with Keaton Ellerby taking his place in the lineup. Kris Versteeg took a stick in the face in the same game and missed practice for what was called a "maintenance day" yesterday. Mikael Samuelsson is on the roadtrip and expected to play for the Panthers soon, though he has been skating in a non-contact jersey at practices.

Quick note John, you have Kulikov as being injured by a puck to the foot, I think the injury is that his leg was cut by Eric Staal’s skate.

“They’re always a good team. I know they were extremely well coached the last couple of years with Pete DeBeor there. It was usually a tough place to play too, going down to Florida. But, they’ve made a lot of changes. They have a lot of skill in their line-up now – including Kris Versteeg scoring well, I played with him. They have skill and they ruffle things up a bit too. They’re playing well right now and we have to play well too.”

Now, if Dadonov does good with Flash and Weiss, like score a goal good, should KD keep him there when versteeg comes back, or put versteeg back on the first.
My logic is that Versteeg on the 2nd line would help secondary scoring?
If he does well, leave him alone. Versteeg is a 20G scorer, if we can mold Daddy into one we’re golden.

Ya know Donny, I called the Buzz 103.1 one time when they were doing an 80’s flashback weekend. The guy on the radio had no idea who Oingo Boingo was. he knew Danny Elfman, but not Oingo boingo. When I emntioned Weird Science, and Dead man’s party from back to School, then he knew who they were, but still didn’t realize it was the same guy. I haven’t listened to the Buzz since. I thought it was bad when they called better Than Ezra godfathers of Alternative music.

I hate the instigator penalty, but it’s absolutely worth it when someone trips your top scorer into someone’s elbow, leaving him with “headaches.”
