Forward Quinton Howden was hit hard by [Tampa Bay's] Brett Connolly midway through the second period of Monday night's intra-squad game at Canada's world junior selection camp. Howden, a Florida Panthers prospect who plays for Moose Jaw in the WHL, barely made it off the ice under his own power. He left for the dressing room immediately.

Said Connolly:
“If it was to do it over again, maybe I would have held up. I felt bad.”

Personally, I don’t think this adds anything to the rivalry, but if I was Howden, I’d run this piece of garbage the next time I saw him. The entire video they showed and talked about how the coaches were riding this kid and so he took his frustration out on one of his teammates. You could see on the hit that he lifted up as he hit – that’s intent to injure. I’m sorry, but to me – that means bus ticket back home. You play hard, but when you’re playing with the intent to injure other players, that’s when it’s got to stop.
I think we should without a judgement on “fragility” because these head shots have nothing to do with how tough you are. What this tells me is that Panther management should be taking a keen eye to this, making sure he’s seeing the right doctors and when he’s ready to be back on the ice, he needs to start learning to evade these hits and protect himself when he can’t. I don’t think that he even saw this coming.
Brett Connolly did make the Tampa roster, just saying.
