Panthers escape further absences as Kopecky slips the Shanaban

No suspensions, but coach Dineen's timeless soundbite could garner a little attention from the head office in Manhattan:

"Some guy crosschecks you in the back he deserves a smash in the face. He got what he deserved and then guys that play five minutes a night, that's typical they go out there and grab one of our skilled players. We'll see what the response is [next week]."

Update: Del Zotto and Kopecky fined $2,500 each.

Maybe the Flyers can take care of the Rangers forwards for us.

Del Zotto fined as well. I didn’t see anything on Rupp which kind of surprised me, as I thought his actions were far worse then anything Kopecky or Del Zotto did. Those two were “jostling” for awhile before the cross check to the head and then the retaliation. Rupp came after everything seemed to be over, jumped an unprepared Kopecky who was already in the linesman’s arms, yanked him away from the pile and just started whaling on him. Oh well, Thursday should be fun.

Oh, and if there was any doubt left in my mind that I like Dineen as our coach, that soundbite erased it. I get the feeling he’d be ready as any to strap on the foil Thursday and get on the ice himself. Love it.

Well, if you suckerpunch as blatantly as Kopecky did, youre opening yourself up to guys like Rupp pounding you. Just one of those tacit rules to the NHL might overlook to ‘teach Kopecky a lesson’.

I’m putting here for reflection later on in the season…. #14 Tomas [Fleischmann] is getting a 40G season. FLASH COUNT: 13G/19A

I disagree ONLY because the officials had possession of Kopy and Rupp pulled him away to pummel him. If Kopy was standing on his own and jawing with DZ then Rupp could jump in to give lessons.

DZ hit Kopy over the back of the head tomahawk style with his stick. So hard it knocked his helmet off. If there ever was a sucker punch justified, it was there. I respect Rupp coming to the defense of his mate but upset no panther jumped Rupp at that point. Cant expect Barch to be on the ice any instant he is needed. Our regulars are gonna need to toughen up if we are going to have success, especially when it matters most!

Rupp knows better than that

You can’t go after a guy for a sucker punch (more on that next) by yanking him out of the linesman’s arms. That’s bush league. I’m surprised and disappointed that Shanny didn’t address that.

As for sucker punch, I disagree. I don’t think taking someone’s helmet off with your stick and then turning sideways renders you immune from reprisals. He knew something was coming. Kopy was still wearing his glove anyway.

Meh. The really annoying thing is the last six seconds were a panthers power play. Hurt the stats just a bit more.

that was no cross check to the head

DZ pushed him twice, first a firm shot to the lower back, which knocked of kupes helmets, then a second shorter low hit which grazed off him. kupes SUCKER PUNCHED DZ, end of story… Flyers aint gonna do anything except loise in front of thier entire city… and yeah, we will see next week @ MSG how the pussy cats handle themselves… they couldnt beat us in Flodia, what makes u yhink yhey can beat us in New York?! paaaa leeeeeeease….

Must match ups on thursday

Kopy and DZ must settle this on thursday. Kopy suckered him with a soft glove on where he should have bare knuckled him in the nose. DZ dove to the ice where he should have maned up and dropped them there. I just hope he drops them on thursday night when the time comes.
And oh yea, Rupper is gonna dance with Barchy too.

That’s true. DZ dropped like he was hit by a Pygmy blow dart, as Red Deer Randy would say. Yes, punches hurt, but his reaction was over the top.

Your own commentators called it a cross check. Don’t be such a homer.

for the record

he was cross checked to the face; not in the back. He was slashed tomahawk style in the back of the head driving the helmet off. See ya thursday.
