Cats' GM Dale Tallon continued the housecleaning, begun several weeks ago with the Michael Frolik / Jack Skille deal, by today placing slumping forward Steve Bernier on waivers, then trading 37 year-old winger Cory Stillman to Carolina for center Ryan Carter and a fifth-round pick in 2011.
Stillman, an alternate captain with the Panthers for most of the past three seasons, collected 23 points (7 goals) in 44 games. This will be his second tour with the Canes, having won the second of his two Stanley Cup rings with the club in 2006.
Carter, 27, is listed as day-to-day (back). In 32 games with the Hurricanes, he has 3 points (all assists). The 6-2, 200 lb undrafted Minnesota native has 12 goals, 20 assists, 32 points and 3 GWG in 170 career games with Anaheim and Carolina.
