Friday Caterwaul: Panthers GameDay Open Forum
So heading into Friday's game in Atlanta, where in tarnation are we? With left wing Cory Stillman off to Raleigh, right wing Steve Bernier clearing waivers, and forwards Michal Repik & Bill Thomas jockeying for injured Jack Skille's spot, the Panthers will have a slightly modified look before the puck drops against the Thrashers. Not to mention Stiller's "A" has yet to be reassigned; look for it to appear on the chest of Bryan Allen, me guesses.
Speaking of the Blue Birds, they made a few waves of their own on Thursday by sending former Blackhawks defenseman Brent Sopel and forward Nigel Dawes to Montreal for prospect Ben Maxwell and a fourth-round pick in '11. Oh, and GM Rick Dudley was (rightfully) re-upped for another four years.
And it's only Friday.
Game Preview at 3pm; Live Game Thread at 6ish. Check out our pals at Bird Watchers Anonymous for a Thrasheristic take on this evening's Main Event.

great deal for FLA
Sulzer’s going to be pretty good. Already is, actually.

At least Santos isn’t ashamed to pick at talents in his previous system. Santorelli has been a steal.
Got to say that it’s almost a guarantee that Wideman or McCabe (more the latter) is going if they’re bringing in defensive help.
What’s more is that Tallon trusts in Santos’ judgment on these low-profile players. Very heartening.

Conditional is a 7th in 2012, per LeBrun. Condition is whether Sulzer re-signs with Panthers; he’ll be a UFA in July.

Always been a solid fallback for the “A”.

I agree. I distinctly remember at the end of the 2007-2008 season after the last game, it was Bryan Allen and not captain Olli who came out at the end and apologized for the poor season and promised a better effort the next year.

And incidentally, 08-09 was a far better year.

Absolutely. I still think if JM traded Jay Bo and he and DeBoer put aside their feud with Nick Boynton, the end of that season and all of last season would have been completely different.

Speaking of Nick Boynton, he’s on waivers.

Agreed. I think JM decided to screw Florida on that one. He knew he’d be going to Montreal and decided “why make Florida any better by trading JayBo?”. If anyone knew what was what in the organization at the time, they should have demanded compensation from Montreal for the right to talk to Jacques.
I agree on the compensation aspect (like, say a sixth-rounder), but no way JM knew where Bouw would ultimately end up. Just as easily could have been Boston or another NE club, where they’d face each other 6 times per year.

If anyone knew what was what in the organization at the time, JM never would have been made GM.
