#NHL news. Look for #Panthers Bryan McCabe to be traded to the #Rangers as early as today. McCabe willing to waive no-movement clause.

I could see McCabe going to the Rangers, they have possibilities.
Kypreos’ earlier tweet about Weiss warming up to waiving his NTC is troublesome. Don’t know if I believe it but take it in context with the stress he’s been under the past week from the trade talks and such and its a perfect storm for him to make that type of decision.
Florida Panthers. Good Hockey, Great Advertising!
To offer a suggestion, I’d take back Ryan McDonagh and a mid-round pick for McCabe. Big, nasty, defenseman similar in style to Gudbrandson. I’m not sold on Staal re: the discussion below. No way they’d give us Derek Stepan for McCabe straight up. Problem is we’re going to start needing forwards, where is Steve Reinprecht when we need him!!!
Dont know if there is any truth on it but I heard a rumor that Marc Staal might be involved and he was the part why the trade was not completed..
Hard to fathom they’d give up on him so soon…

MTL needs defensmen… And big bodies. Allen would make sense there.

Allens been big for us all year, plus he’s one hell of a leader and Gudbranson said he’s the guy he’s stayed in touch with. I’d like to keep Allen, lose Wideman.
If we lose Allen, Stillman and McCabe this weekend we might as well just trade away all the C patches too, wont be getting any use here.
From GR:
#FlaPanthers said to be ‘working on a few things.’ Stay tuned. @DavidJNeal also working as I head home
Also, the Flyers picked up Nick Boynton off waivers. Would be interesting if they get to the Cup final again.

This one figures. If The Beach isn’t a perfect fit with Homer’s club then no one is.

And defense was their trouble spot last year. Lavy overplayed his top 4 and Pronger and Timonen ran out of gas during the final. They shored it up this season, but Boynton would give them a decent 7th to move in and out of the lineup as needed, same as Chicago did last year. And Lavy won’t put up with his crap, but will play him if he needs him.

Tallon will most likely go for a draft pick as the first priority, plus Kulikov will be back in 2 games or so, so we really don’t need another D-man, even though he has the same amount of points as McCabe. I’d go for a 1st or 2nd round pick and then pick up a foward from them, even if it is a prized prospect instead of a roster player.

Picks and prospects are fine with me, but if we get a roster player he needs to be a very good one

Was just going to post. That’s from McKenzie. As soon as there’s team confirmation, I’ll have a post up on the main page…

TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports South #Buffalo native Tim Kennedy is traded with 3rd round pick from #Rangers to #Panthers for Brian McCabe
Interesting if that is the trade, since Kennedy doesn’t fit Tallon’s size and height requirements whatsover. Maybe he’ll be on the fourth line in the future. Will he be a free agent this summer?
- Go Panthers -
probably a good move by us, it certainly shows that Tallon is more interested in prospects than anything else

His contract expires this year, he’ll be a RFA.
by Pilchino on Feb 26, 2011 2:59 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Absolutely but did you know that we need to sign some big contracts before the beginning of the next season because of an NHL rule?
From hfboards:
The 2011-12 cap floor is projected to be around $45-46 million. Due to expiring contracts, the Panthers will be $20 million under the cap floor as it is. If we trade any players under contract for 2011-12 and beyond, then that number will go up. Why does this matter?
By NHL rule, the Cats cannot continue on their present path of shedding salary for picks and prospects. At some point, prior to the start of the 2011-12, the team will have to add significant contracts.
We have already gone about as cheap as one can go on offense with the highest salaries of our top 3 players (Booth, Olesz & Weiss) totaling less than $11 million and Olesz is a likely candidate for a buyout. Ditto on defense where our highest salaries (Wides & Allen) total less than less than $7 million. After that, we have a collection of players under cheap contracts and RFAs, none of whom are expected to break the bank.
If they re-sign Vokoun that will help. Plus most of our forwards’ contracts are expiring. We’re bound to keep some of them. I can’t see them all going.

Good point, but there are plenty of RFAs in the organization and if they make a few strategic pickups in the UFA market in the offseason they’ll make the cap floor easily.
Just don’t expect them to go above the floor until the pieces are in place and they are ready to make the final additions necessary for a run.
Florida Panthers. Good Hockey, Great Advertising!
One crappy thing with Kennedy
Rangers fan, Kennedy is small but he played pretty well in the preseason. Problem with Kennedy is he has to clear waivers to play for florida this season. He has a very low cap hit and playoff experience, I wont expect him to pass through reentry waivers without being picked up by another team desperate for offensive stop gaps like the Penguins
HOWEVER
if another team claims him, he is sent to THEIR affiliate, then THEY need to put him through re-entry to get him to the main club, so i think people will just let it go otherwise it’s just a cycle and nothing gets done
