If anyone missed it yesterday, it was reported (GR, I think) that the Panthers moved their flight to Raleigh to 5:00 tonight, 2 hours after the deadline. Also, today the team tweeted a pic of their “war room” setup.

The Panthers put their home authentics on half-price sale at the end of last season in anticipation of the uniform change next season, so I grabbed one and took it home and stuck it in the closet. I waited to see who got traded in the off-season, then brought it back during the pre-season and had Kuli’s number put on it.

They usually put jerseys on sale at the end of the season. I have a blank away jersey that is calling out for Dadonov next season. Supposedly we have new jerseys on the way too so that’s something to save for next season.

No, no, not pissed – just sad. Disappointed. But I knew there was a good chance my Barky was going to be blueprinted. And… ugh to Atlanta, but I have to say, I hate the Thrashers significantly less since they started picking up a bunch of players I like. And now that they’ve got Barky… well, I can hardly despise them, can I?

Anyway, I got the wailing and gnashing of teeth out of my system on Twitter. What I’m concerned about is the fact that we gave up a 5th rounder along with Barky. Really? Don’t we need that pick?

That makes no sense. They’ve already said that they think they can re-sign anyone and that they’re not talking contracts with UFAs until the season’s over. And that’s basically why McCabe left. Because he wanted to talk contract and they didn’t.

If Clem is the only goalie Florida has for next season. Would Florida think about signing UFA Craig A and bring him back to Florida? Clem is on a 3-year contract, and we hope Markstrom will be ready when Clem’s contract is up.

Not buying the Philly or Washington— both teams have had good goaltending and sit 8th and 7th respectivley in GA/G in the LEAGUE.

I think the Flyers would want Vokoun if they’re trying to make a cup run. Bobrovsky might not do well under the pressure or get injured and the last thing you want is Boucher taking you to the finals.

But it’s been the same issue every year for them. Varlamov was great a few playoffs ago but I don’t think they have the goaltending to carry them at all.

Wow, this guy’s a moron. Umm… Flyers didn’t send JVR down to make room for Nick Boynton on the salary cap, but because they hit the 23 man roster limit even though Boynton couldn’t make it for their next game. JVR was sent down for one game because they needed the defenseman that was called up. When Boynton arrived, they swapped the guy back for JVR.

Everyone has to have some respect for what DeBoer did during his tenure as the Panthers coach. The guy is going to finish with around a .500 record, and look at the teams he’s had over the last three seasons. A very admirable performance IMHO.

Overall, I am very encouraged

A Carolina first is still going to be in the latter half of the draft. The better they do in the playoffs, the closer it gets to being a 2nd rounder. If Carolina thinks they’re going to run deep, Tallon might use that against them in talks.

No one. That’s the problem.

The plus is: Vokoun could come cheap next season. If they can get him to a three year deal at a reasonable price, that’s great insurance against Markstrom/Plante not being ready and good enough in the next few years. Goalies can take a while. And look at the Giguere situation. If he’s got a reasonable price tag/cap hit, there will likely be a market if he gets outplayed.

I’ll go against the grain with Booth. I’d be sad to see him or Weiss go. full on tank mode now, I am pleased with what we have done so far today…Would have liked it if we could have picked up another 2nd or 1st but we got a couple of 3rds that we can use on draft day to move up possibly. Glad to see Allen gone…he has not been the same since the knee injury and it seems he is way to easy to get past…He is the slowest backward skater I have seen on D in a long time. Wonder if we make any last moves…

Wonder if the west being so packed together caused those teams to hold back. Outside of LA picking up Penner and St Louis with Boyes, today was all about the eastern contenders getting better. The Western teams are probably playing it a little more cautious and gonna try to win with what they got.

@Alex, I don’t think there is much available this summer as far as free agency goes…The other problem is most players would rather not come to a rebuilding Florida squad. I think we are going to see an old fashioned rebuild here…Next year we will be very young with a bunch of our prospects stepping up to the big club and playing for us. That will most likely result in a team that ends up with a lottery pick in next years draft…We have to build through the draft and moving all these guys for picks etc and clearing payroll is exactly what we needed. Chris Higgins just got traded for a 3rd to Vancouver, so that means we moved Higgins,Stillman,Dvorak,Allen,McCabe,Wideman, and Frolik. That’s a lot of trades and its good to see Tallon turning this team over in his image.

could be used to for a qualifiy offer to a RFA. I could see the panthers try to outbid for RFAs in the future. A good way to rebuild if you know what you need

nope qualifying offers have to use the teams own immediate picks. So for example if we signed an offer sheet, the picks would be our 2012 picks

You shouldnt look there. Not worth a response. After 10 years without the POs most people think we are done rebuilding in one year and Tallon made bad moves.

OK—here’s what I think of the trades
1. Dvo+5th for Bergfors and Rissmiller: Awesome deal for a UFA, please resign July 1st Barky!
2. Wideman for Hauswirth+3rd: I will point to this trade if our defense collapses next year!
3.Allen for Samsonov: You sure aren’t getting younger, and dont you dare take Dvo’s #14!! Whatever.
4. Higgins for Oberg+3rd: Pretty good return considering Higgy was a free agent, please resign on UFA day (?)

Overall, I am happy with what we have for a roster tomorrow, but more excited for the draft and next year when some of these prospects can get their chance

Super glad we didn’t trade Vokoun for peanuts today, that would have been a huge mistake. That being said, lets see what he can get us on draft day when the market for starting goaltenders is hotter, or just resign him and give Marky some time as backup (which I’d find quite acceptable)

I think giving Markstrom another year in the A is ok. Go Vokoun & Clemmensen next year, then replace Clemmer with Markstrom or Plante, whomever has been better.

Markstrom should not be the backup of either Clemmer or Voky. He needs to play right now and get used to the new ice. He struggled mostly this year and he shouldnt waste his year in Florida. After that he should come up though. Or Plante.

It is. Out of 34 players on the roster when he arrived, almost half (16) are gone. They were traded, bought out (Koistenen) or let go at the ends of contracts (Kreps, Tarnasky etc.).

There’s at least one more buyout coming (Reinprecht), plus a few free agents walking away (Bitz at the very least).

Out of 49 current players (everyone capgeek has a contract for), 17 have a contract next year.

We have 8 roster UFAs, and 4 in the minors and 8 roster UFAs and 12 non-roster (but that counts Ellerby who will soon be a roster player again).

possible UFA's?

Anyone have a list of potential UFA’s come july 1st? interested in seeing what might be available (other than the possability of richards). Since we have so much to spend now and Tallon said he would be aggressive I was wanting to check it out. I heard the pool wasn’t very deep to choose from this coming year?
