VIDEO: Panthers / Capitals - Wideman trade call
Neat stuff here; obviously all parties were aware they were being recorded but fun nonetheless. Assistant GM Mike Santos (on phone) represents Florida as Dennis Wideman is dealt for Washington prospect Jake Hauswirth (and a draft pick) before the NHL Trade Deadline on February 28th, 2011. It's gestures such as this effort which continue to remind us we follow the best sport on the planet.
Video courtesy of the Caps' official site, and special thanks to Japers' Rink for the heads-up.

Was it just me or did Santos sound like he knew it was about to be a loooong day ahead of him, lol… the Caps guy seemed very happy about all of it tho.
All business for Santos. Loved the end where they forced some kinds words on each other.

The Velvet Ropes
I arrived home a bit late this evening and my girlfriend was watching this live on NHLN. Initially I was really pissed off by the “velvet ropes” line; i.e. the Panthers play in South Beach where it’s all about exclusive clubs with crap music and over priced drinks, maybe even a line behind a velvet rope. She gave me a few moments to rant about how we – Rodney Dangerfield voice – “can’t get no respect” before rewinding the DVR back to the previous such feature. Same intro for the Oilers/Kings trade video.
Am I becoming a bitter Panthers fan? Might I take offense to otherwise innocent TV segments where none is actually warranted? Any one else feel this happening to them?
I didn’t hear it that way, myself; took it as the video would brings us “behind the scenes”, so to speak. Poorly worded, I guess. My 2 cents.

In retrospect I was way off base. I think it was just my initial reaction to the Panther bashing that was rife across the networks today. What I meant was that I was very wrong in my assessment and that maybe I’m over sensitive to perceived insults as of late.
Over all, excellent coverage. This type of film was what I enjoyed most about the HBO 24/7 miniseries.
