Monday Caterwaul: Panthers Open Forum
Yet another trip around stunning Palm Beach County for me today, so it's time for the latest episode of mail-it-in Monday. Anything develops through the day, post it up here.
Former Florida Panthers goaltender Craig Anderson has signed a four-year, $12.75M contract extension with the Ottawa Senators. Guess that makes him part of the proverbial "solution"; hope Bryan Murray's successor agrees. Anyway, congrats to him on scoring big.
New Hurricanes defenseman Bryan Allen: "I've heard nothing but stories about, 'Wait until you get in the playoffs here and see how it is.' " Reality Check: Carolina currently sits 3 points back of eight place Buffalo; both clubs have played 72 games.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Mike Berardino on Peter DeBoer's future with the organization: "Such talk (about a coaching change) probably isn't fair, not after a handful of veterans were shipped off for draft picks and other trinkets last month, but it's only natural when you connect the dots."
From a few days ago, but the Montreal Gazette contrasts two very different situations between the Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning; expect the typical brickbats thrown our way.
One more hit from the Sentinel: Jack Skille and Alexander Sulzer will play Tuesday in Manhattan; is Michal Repik the odd-man out? Should he be?
Live Game Thread tomorrow at 6:30 pm.

Depends on the recalls available to the Panthers. If they’re still in emergency recalls, then it’s either going to be Repik or Rissmiller going. If they’re not, and can keep an extra guy in the lineup now, then DeBoer might sit Hordichuk.
But really, Repik maybe should be the odd guy out. Skille’s at least going on the third line. They’re probably better off sending Repik back to Rochester to play than to see limited minutes on the fourth line.
"We don't need the designated goon. Those fights aren't even fun to watch." -Mike Milbury

I agree about Repik. He still is not a finisher…. This team needs finishers. I see him playing some more games in the AHL next season. Especially due to the $$$$
With the amount of money that the Panthers have, they can make a play on any free agent in the NHL market. I expect the Panthers to go after Leino and Richards in the offseason. Doesn’t mean that they get them, but they can at least try with the $$$$
Completely OT, but ...
… any quick bets how where the Campbell Wheel of Suspension™ lands for Matt Cooke, who laid a rather nasty elbow on Ranger defenseman Ryan McDonagh yesterday? I’ve given up on guessing what punishment, if any, will be dispensed.

Agreed; but unless the league just developed a conscience it won’t be more.

After the soapbox that Mario stood on a few weeks back he should release Cooke unless he wants to look like the worlds largest hypocrite.

Campbell did exactly the right thing.

So in essence we won’t see him until September. Fine with me.

Speaking of Murray:
Just said he thinks Vokoun will remain in FLA, hence resigning of Andy

I think Vokie Stays…..not getting younger……“goalie free agency” not great……not alot of interest out there for his services…..got this far w/ the team…..might as well stay thru the reconstruction of the Panthers and make a few less bucks….At least you’ll be playing Hockey next year, Vokie.
I get the feeling that some team will have a goalie blowout during the playoffs and will be interested in Vokoun, then Tallon pounces and suckers them out of some players/picks at the draft

Player’s rights are owned by current club until July 1st, meaning club can trade what are ostensibly his exclusive negotiating rights to another team. This is what was done with Bouwmeester/Calgary.

What kinda rebuild are they having up there? As a GM I would keep Andy on a short leash…

AMERKS....
Has anyone heard anything on the Panthers and Amerks? Are they on speaking terms yet? Or has the Panthers found a new sharing affliate?
Status quo from both sides. Not a peep.

I think they’re going to have to work out their differences, as no one else seems to be willing to change dancing partners.

Repik brings so much more than Rissmiller, and Rismiller doesn’t need the experience. Pretty easy decision.
Little Bitz Pregnant needs a monster Jimmy Howard victory tonight; playoffs and all.

And it ain’t looking good after his yawning five-hole opens for a Dupuis backhander. Lame.

That MTL article was ridiculous…the write did a great job summarizing a Wikipedia article because it was obvious he couldn’t care less about hockey in FLA
On a lighter note, I’m very happy to see that CAJ and Sulzer will be back tomorrow

I’m hoping Skille and Carter land up on the same line as one another— if they don’t, I actually think it’ll be because they’re playing against one another for next years spot. I know one’s a wing, and one’s a center, but I’m having a hard time seeing both of them back next year.
@OFP Weiss and Clemm are out tonight,Skille in
