We are aware that some of you - myself included - may have run into an issue when logging into LBC over the past few days.
The short story: a malicious attack was launched against SB Nation, our host network, which rearranged code in one or more advertisements, causing a pop-up to launch which prompted the user to click "to remove harmful viruses!" or something worded similarly.
Of course, clicking through would allow the virus to take root in the user's system. We deeply apologize if this was the result.
The virus "alert" did not affect every user; those who experienced the problem were entirely random.
This was a sophisticated electronic offensive which our technical department has spent many days and hours to counter. It is believed with confidence that the issue has been eradicated on our end, but running legitimate virus scanning software along with a malware program - such as Malwarebytes.org, a free download - would be recommended for those who may fear infection.
Our technical staff can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org and highly enourage feedback from community members experiencing similar issues. If you choose to contact the staff in this matter, please include as much of the following as possible:
- What browser/OS are you using?
- What site were you on?
- What page were you on?
- When day did you first see this?
- How many times have you seen it since?
- Has it happened on any other sites? Which ones?
- Did you click on anything after it redirected you to the virus scan screen?
Every measure and expense involved in protection and future attack prevention is being undertaken.
Thanks as always for your continued support here at LBC and around SB Nation.
